Other non-endangered animals I do not mind seeing harvested. I understand and am not crying or being judgmental, but I get a tinge of sadness seeing bears harvested outside of self defense even back then probably for good reason. I do not have to put up with bears here either. My son's nickname is "Bear".

I don't think the small skin is a baby bear, I think it is a large badger or wolverine. The head is very different!

If it is a wolverine, I'm not sure any bear gun is BIG enough to make me comfortable on that hunt.

Just saw a tv gun show on that rifle and it has a famous magazine front page picture, that brought it attention....

As a young man in the 60’s I spent some summers in northern Quebec and Alaska. Both had black bear problems. The animals were so prolific and destructive they were declared varmints—open season all year, no limit.

I imagine there was a time when even brown/grizzly bears were real threats in great numbers as ranchers spread throughout the west. Same with wolves, carrier pigeons and bison. We thought we could never kill all of them. Unfortunately, we just about did.
