Purists, please be open minded...

I was wondering if anyone has purchased one of the banged up LEO turn-ins and has had them Cerecoated (sp?)... Or something similar. I'm looking for a house gun to go along with my 6906 carry.

If so... how did it turn out.

I've never had a pistol cerakoted........yet. ;) But if you want to see how one looks, check out the 3913 for sale in the classifieds here today.

Looks mighty good to me! :) Regards 18DAI

Cerakote is marvelous. It's much more functional and durable than Duracoat. However, find a certified NIC applicator through their website. There has been some bad jobs done.

I've had several weapons re-finished. 469, Astra Constable, P228, couple shot guns, a pig rifle and my duty P220 and the 3913 referenced above. One that hasn't been touched is the 4516 I got from 18DAI.

When I converted my 4013 to 10mm I had it cerakoted and was extremely happy with it. Loved the option of personalizing it with whatever color I wanted.

I had the frame on a police turn in 6904 done about a year ago in a silver/gray........I now have a reverse two tone that looks like my PC 690x Shorty-9 !!!!!

Did the same to a 20 year old Beretta 92compact Type M.....

Both have held up well ..... and look good!!!!!!

For a house gun,......what's the point? How banged up can it be that it won't serve that purpose? I seem to specialize in police trade-ins and every time I think about a refinish I wonder why I didn't just spend a few more bucks on the front end rather than dream about dumping more money into something less. Maybe with a trashed alloy frame it would make some sense, but if you feel you just have to make an all stainless 'beater' look better simply have it bead blasted and call it good.

I have a 5906 on the way in and it looks pretty decent for the price,....$315 delivered. My only two cerakoted firearms are a SIG P220 and a Ruger Service Six. The Serv6 I had done by my gunsmith buddy and the action is now very stiff. Appears all the clearances have been shrunk down to negative, but it hasn't been run in at all yet. The P220 seems fine, but I have no idea how many rounds have gone through it since refinish. I'm reluctant to refinish anything that doesn't seriously need it.

I like some of the creative looks of some finishes that I've seen, but don't think I could bring myself to finish something that looked good to start with, save some money because the cosmetics aren't there and do something creative. That's what is bouncing around in my noggin.

There is a beat-down 4506 in a store near me, the finish is terrible, that I'm contemplating buying and refinishing. Why not give a great gun a new life?

I would think correct bead blasting the stainless in the guns would bring them back to factory new/ original and look best unless you just wanted the color of the Cerakote. Cheaper and easier upkeep on the restored bead blasted finish.

I bought a model 38 Bodyguard Airweight that I had cerakoted flat black. It looks really good the cerakote brought the old girl back. Instead of of an ugly finish that was on it it looks brand new kind of an old school new school look. The finish is like a LCR but it is old school hump back bodyguard airweight cool.

My intention is to do a fire service theme or something fun with some color.
