Been a number of years since I last used a Zippo...

Back in my high school and college smoking days, I carried a Zippo. I used a vibra pen to etch my name on the case, fairly crudely. I also suffered from Zippo leg several times due to overfilling. Later, I graduated to carrying a Ronson. It did not leak. My wife always carried a Bic. I quit smoking over 40 years ago but I don’t remember exactly when.

I smoke about 5 cigars a year so my brass zippo is always empty (dry). I have another with the butane insert which is pretty cool but you can't fly with it.

I just used my Zippo last night, even though I quit cigarettes back in '98, I still have use for a lighter from time to time. They're good for carterizing the end of a rope to prevent fraying. There's always something around here that needs lit where my Mapp gas torch is just too much.
I burned my leg a few times with a freshly filled Zippo. Live & learn, after a few lessons it finally kicks in.

Zippo fan here. I carry a USMC Brass lighter that has been my buddy for years. Lately I discovered that flints were nearly impossible to find - same for wicks. The burn is just their friendly reminder that you won't run dry for a couple of days. I didn't know it until recently that Case Knives bought out Zippo (or maybe the other way around). I expect a Case knife burn any day now.

It's been many moons but I seem to remember getting the flints out of dead Bics and putting them in my Zippo. They lasted longer than the replacement flints

I'm an occasional pipe smoker, and have only ever used a Zippo. I have a couple old ones I've had fir years. I tried a Bic once when I was at a friend's as I didn't have my Zippo handy and couldn't stand it for lighting a pipe.

I use my 1994 made Zippo everyday. It is beat up and seen plenty of use but works like a charm. Gotta admit that about 20 years is sat in a desk drawer unused but I got it back out say 5 years ago and use it daily. Fill it once a week, replace the flint say once or twice a year and save plenty of money compared to using a Bic to light my Camels.

I never smoked but I have two Zippo lighters. One is a Cleveland Indians model with Chief Wahoo on it, still in the original sleeve and tin. The other is a leather wrapped lighter that my aunts got as a gift for my paternal grandfather. It's never been used and somehow I ended up with it since he passed back in 1974. It's special to me because it was my granddad's and it has his initials on it.

I used to pick up old BIC lighters whenever I found them on the road, etc. The flints in those fit my Zippos and last longer as well. Never bought another Zippo flint. Finally quit smoking about 30 years ago and got rid of my Zippos. Kept a few BICs because you just never know.

I’ve still got one my son gave me 20? years ago. I think it was a Harley Davidson, but the decal is long gone. I keep a bic handy which gives my cardiologist her own heart problems lol

“Are you still doing that!? Why!?”

I’m weak [emoji33][emoji849]

My daughter gave me the Harley lighter on the left in 2000, it's never been used. A friend gave me the one on the right...it's been used a lot.

Got this one from Marlboro multitudes of years ago. Never used it either. I've got about a dozen or so Zippo's laying around.

Not sure about now, but they have great customer service, and stand behind their warranty. I sent one back that fell out of my pocket and got ran over by a few cars, and one I ran over with the riding mower. They replaced both with new brass Zipps.

I forgot to mention in my other post. When my son went into the USAF I got him the Zippo with AF logo on it. He’s never smoked in his life but carries it in the back country. Constant reliable windproof.

Years ago in college I was hanging out at a bar we all used to go to. I came back from the head one time and my buddy showed me his new Zippo. Apparently a guy came to the table and said he would give it to whoever's birthday came closest to the date on his lighter. It was a gift from when he got back from the Korean conflict and the date was the date he returned to the States. My buddy was off by a couple of years. He showed me the date and it was my birthday and year exactly. Not a big deal but I've always remembered it. Too bad I was in the head. Of all the things I've ever owned, Zippo lighters were probably the most reliable.

So wait…….. you said to bad you were in the head. Did your buddy not give you the lighter?????

I’m sorry my old Zippo, w/my Navy ship’s name & my rank, was lost many moons ago. It was quite a keepsake but I quit smoking when I was 23.

I quit smoking about 25+ years ago, but I still have a zippo that was presented to me when I left my unit in Korea. The lighter is engraved with the unit number and has a unit crest soldered on. That battalion has since been disbanded and sent to the Army's rest home for battalions and regiments no longer in service.
