After the election, remember that, seems like Forever ago, and then the Connecticut shooting, components all but dried up.
Of course we all know this.
As components evaporated many speculated as to when they would start coming back...
At about that same time I had plenty outside of 'this world' to keep my energies split. So, I took it to heart when some members suggested fishing for a while and focused my energies elsewhere. I took 'a while' to mean 6 months or so, maybe a year.

So I pop back in the other day, well beyond said grace period, thinking I'll just 'add to cart' and press submit.
I start hitting up all the old haunts, Recobs, Grafs, PV, etc etc.
No pistol powder anywhere, nada!
But you guys know this.

And, to make matters worse, Skip is gone!?

So, I ask, what's a guy to do?

Fishing is boring after a year and a half.
Don't get me wrong, I still have a few components but jeez, I sure feel protective of them.

A local gun store about a 100 mile round trip is stocked to the moon with components and ammo. I don't know where he is getting his stock as all other shops in the eastern half of the state are dry. Nada. The LGS owner limits purchase to 1 LB of powder, 1 box of bullets etc per week. I've been making the ride once a week. Factor in gas and cost =. I'm just thankful I can make a purchase.
A mans gotta do what a mans gotta do.

I don't like fishing.

Ok, I was just at Cabella's in Lacy and they had primers, and powder for sale. Xtreme bullets over the internet has in stock 9, 38, 45, plated and lead bullets. I still can't find any w231 but have found 800x, 700x and aa#5.

I haven't been able to get 231 for over 6 months, I'm using Autocomp now but I haven't seen that for sale for quite a while. I see nothing at local stores, online is the only source I've found but I have to watch and act as soon as I see it. Good luck.

Do you have a local Gun Show? If you do plan on attending every single one that comes up. Because there is usually one or two dealers selling reloading components. Last Friday I hit the monthly show at a nearby Flea Market hoping to find some IMR SR7625, Accurate #5, VV 3N37, or H110. Came home with 1 lbs. of Hodgdon Longshot and 1 lbs. of Winchester 296. Since 296 is the exact same powder as H110 that was a 100% success. As for the Longshot, it's a bit loud and flashy due to the slow burn rate but it's an excellent powder if you want to build some high velocity loads in the 40 S&W. In addition Lonshot is useful for 357 Magnums with 140 grain and heavier bullets and 45 ACP loads. So for me Longshot is useful if a bit louder and flashier than I prefer.

This leads me to my second point. That is that you need to have a list of Alternates in your possession at all times or have it memorized. When you can't find exactly what you want but can find a suitable Alternate you need to know that tidbit.

BTW, handgun powders I will always pick up if I see some. Alliant Unique or Bullseye, Vihtavouri 3N37 N330 N340 or N350, IMR SR7625, Accurate #5 or #7, Hodgdon Longshot, Hodgdon H110 or Win 296, Win 231 or HP38, Ramshot Silohuette, and Alliant 2400.

Third, use Gunbot every single day and you may want to check 3 or 4 times a day. I also check on Powder Valley every day when I get home and again about 9:30 PM EST. If you find a handgun powder on your want list in stock, don't hesitate or think about it, BUY THAT POWDER. Powder Valley has had Unique, Bullseye, and SR7625 show up in the past 3 weeks and every single time they've sold out in less than 1 day and sometimes less than 1 hour.

Don't look now but fishing season is just around the corner.....
ice is coming off our lakes, as I speak.

Yes, I know, it's still bad.................who'd a thunk it??
Those eight pound jugs are looking better each day...........

Good luck.

It felt like....

It felt like things were going to get better a couple of months ago, but still not too good. Powder and bullets seem to be the worst. Brass isn't much better. I have plenty of cast bullets and primers, thank goodness.

I miss not being able to go to the store and buy one can of powder because that's what I need instead of having to buy only 1 lb because of limits. (if you can find powder that is) I also miss Skip...

last time I went on component safari .. I did see enough stuff to cook up some stuff for a rifle .. all in one store too.
I'd go with that for a while, steering clear of the 22 cals as the AR guys are fighting over those bullets.
30-30 and a cast gas checked flat point mold might keep you good and happy for a while.

I just purchased $300 worth of primers. Luckily I have some powder and bullets stashed away. We don't get much for $300.

I just spent over $3k in the fall on all new better bass fishing equipment. I purchased new rods & reels. Spinning & bait casting reels/rods. Plus enough lures to outlast my lifetime and my kids lifetime. I have tons of accessories too. With the prediction every year of life as we know it I'm ready to live off the water shed near me. Plus my kids will never have to purchase anything for fishing. I love bass fishing too.

Being retired I have plenty of time to fish and shoot. Now if this ammo and reloading supplies would be available?
