Been thinking about getting a governor

I have been debating buying a governor for some time now. I plan on having it only be a fun range gun with a little squirrel hunting mixed in. I believe I understand it's limitations and am fine with them, I have enough other guns that this would only be an adult "toy".

Now for the question...

For those of you that own them, are you happy with them?

Accurate, fun, versatile, and did I mention accurate? I haven't hunted with it (state requires a 4" barrel), but it sure shreds some paper!
 
You have the right attitude. It's a fun gun to toy around with. It brings lots of conversation at the range(s).

I've recently found myself shooting a lot of 45 acp on moon clips through mine. I barely shot any for the first year I had it (lots of different 410 and a lot of 45 LC), but it does pretty well with the 45 auto.
 
Anyone know where I can get the 1/3rd moon clips at?
They are so much easier to use.
 
There's a place, I think the revolver store, that sells moon clips. Their price beat anything else I was able to find.

I'm pretty sure they had the third clips as well.
 
I got a chance to shoot one today and I liked everything about it but the 16 pound double action pull. I'm sure I'm exaggerating some but is there anything that can be done to improve it.
 
Great choice! It's my daughter's favorite to shoot. I enjoy shooting it as well, and as mentioned, it's pretty accurate in both flavors of 45! Really nice trigger too.
 
I love my Governor its actually very light and accurate, its also my nightstand gun i keep 410's in there.

Same here. I shoot steel plates with mine once in a while and it is still fun to shoot, plus it is very accurate. Bought mine in 2011 and plugged the IL.

As mentioned it is surprisingly accurate with 45acp. With the CT laser grips and the admittedly heavy DA trigger it makes a great home defense or car gun. Oh yeah, it's also fun to shoot!
 
I agree with all the above posters, the Governor is a very versatile revolver plus a fun one. The idea of shooting 410s, 45 Colts and 45 ACPs makes this revolver practical for many applications. I bought one when they first came out so when the Silver Governor was released I had to have another.

First post here. Been lurking for awhile, but finally got the gumption up to register so I could comment about the Gov.

Like everybody else said, it's an awesome, super fun gun!

The acp's and the lc's feel like nothing to shoot. Even my wife who has really small delicate hands has no problems shooting those rounds out of the thing.

The 410's will give you some small recoil... But nothing close to my 460V or 500's.

I use it as a trail gun and as a bedside gun sitting along with my 686 and a 12 gauge.

Really comfortable rig. I can hike with it on my side all day long with no problems whatsoever.

Again... REALLY FUN gun that serves a nice niche.

The double action pull isn't the lightest, for sure, but I'd hate to re-spring it, or loosen the mainspring screw as the shotgun shell primers might not fire. I believe the handgun specific loads have a " softer" primer.
The Winchester PDX 1 shot shells are stout from a 30 ounce revolver. Plain old .410 field loads are the fun (and cheaper) ones to shoot

I originally had a Judge and I sold it to get the Governor. I love loading my own 45 ACP loads and shooting them. Of course the extra round is also nice.

When I go to South Eastern Ohio I also like keeping #4 shot when out in snake country.
 
I have to agree, the governor is a great gun to shoot. If ya get a chance to shoot some of them 410 shells with the disks and bb's at a 3/4 plywood,do it! Makes me smile just thinking about it again!
 
You're in the same spot i WAS in...I've Been considering a Governor for quite some time, and today i finally put the money down. Got a sweet deal on a NIB black one at a local pawn shop / gun store. I was wanting the matte silver but the manager stated that this one had been in his shop since January of this year and he would be able to knock $65 off the price to move it. Can't wait to give it a workout. It will be a great woods gun.

Man I loved reading this thread because I feel the same way about my Governor. It IS a fun gun to own and shoot with the variety of ammo that can be used. I found the PDX shot shells are a bear to shoot recoil wise, but for HD would be a nasty shock for any

I just love the way LCs feel when shooting more than the acp.
I recently took my wife to the range to rent and shoot a Ruger SP101 for a future purchase. While we were there she also shot the Governor and liked it very much. Didn't think it was too much at all and did well with it. Not enough to want one but to her surprise it was easy enough to handle.
All in all, nice gun , you will enjoy it.
 
I am so glad to keep reading good things about the Governor! I just paid off my 629-6 two weeks ago and the Governor is my next planned handgun purchase, probably after Christmas or early next year. It just seems like it will be a lot of fun to shoot!
 
I'm the original poster and am still without a governor. I was hoping to find one for under $600 but cannot. Does anyone have a lead as to the best deal for one. I am kinda a tightwad and want the best deal I can find. So far the best deal with all fees I have come across is $660. If I cannot find a better deal I am willing to pay that but I would perfer cheaper.
 
That is actually a very good price. I paid around 700 and felt good about it after looking at some other prices they were going for. After getting a chance to shoot it, I was very happy and forgot about the money spent.
 
Question, can moon clips that work on a 625 be used on the Governor???
I hope so...i have plenty of those and could save some money if they do.
 
Governor

Nice back pack gun or trail pistol in a shoulder holster in CCW states. I have no regrets and am pretty happy with it.
