Behlert 39-2

In the early 90's, I went to his shop in Pipersville Pa. and waited while he did a trigger job on my High Standard Victor. Had the pistol out yesterday and it still works great. He always thought outside the box.

Beautiful pistol! True craftsmanship and a nice piece of firearms history.

Priced out of reach so I will have to content myself with its direct descendant, the CS9. ;) Regards 18DAI

I knew Mr Behlert as a friend of a friend. One of his projects, which I never saw come to fruition, was a converted Model 41 to shoot 32 (S&W L??) we talked about it briefly at a Philadelphia NRA mtg about 25 years ago. He did interesting things with 1911s, S&W revolvers, Model 39s, etc, etc. I agree with Ignatz, he did indeed think "outside the box".

Back in the day I visited the PA shop and had them "customize" a Belgium BHP. Ambi safety, rounded hammer, remove the mag safety, trigger job, serrations and Novak sights installed.
Not sure if Sr. Behlert or his son did the job, but "butcher" does come to mind. I had misfires, sticking safety and the rear sight was milled to the slide too far back (it actually hung over the rear of the slide.) A trip or two back to the shop, pretty much didn't help.
Years later, on the my yearly visit to Bucks County PA, I would always see Behlert Jr. running a stand at Rice's Flea Market, selling sports memorabilia….

That's unfortunate to hear about poor experiences with Behlert's work. I have actually never heard of any negative comments in regards to his work. I have 3 Behlert guns, all exhibit amazing craftsmanship. My Behlert modded Python has one of the best DA triggers of any revolver that I have shot. My Behlert Browning Hi Power has a set of his S&W K frame sights beautifully machined into the slide. It has a wonderful action job as well. Finally, I have a 39-2 mini-combat that is very similar to my Devel Full House 39, except the trigger pull is much, much smoother.
The Behlert on GB is very nice, but I think the asking price is a little optimistic.

A friend of mine saved his money, found a beater 39, and had Devel do a custom cut down. A few months after getting it, the 469 came out. He always bemoaned that. He later sold it when the 3913 came out and started carrying it.

For off-duty carry, our Sheriff at the time required a D/A-S/A .380, 9 mm or .45 with a slide mounted safety. PPK/s and 3913s ruled.
