I had to break out my SCS&W to find out what I just bought today. The guy at the gunshow didn't know what it was, and I didn't either, but I knew it was cool. Original finish, as far as I can tell, nice bore, serial #'s match. I thought the SN on the front strap and the grips were unusual though. The guy had it at $400, but I got it for $360. I told him if he didn't know what it was, how come so high! He said "I think it's a real old Model 10", that's why. I said "Oh, OK."
So, did I get burned? I thought that wasn't too bad, knowing is wasn't a Model 10. Serial number is 2400xx.

It is really nicely balanced, fantastic trigger, and fits my hand perfectly. I think I'm going to enjoy shooting it. I have some standard loads; I read a little about these now, and that is what they say it shoots. I'll have to ask Roy Jinks when it was shipped.

Very nice find, indeed! It will be interesting to learn what light Roy can shed on it's history.

Regards, Jerry

Thanks guys. You know, it said in the SCS&W that the S&W rollmark is on the left, below the thumb piece. This one is on the right. I wonder how much "Bekeartness" this one has.

do the grips have a ser# on the bottom? true bekeart have a seperate number on the bottom of the grip. great buy!!!!!!

No, there isn't a number on the bottom of the grips. I do know now from my reading that it isn't one of the original ones, but one of the early production .22/.32 Heavy Targets. I'll have the shipping date shortly.

AC

Well, yours certainly is nice Dave! I noticed yours has the logo on the left, and no medallions on the grips. Is yours earlier than mine?

AC

No, AC, mine is quite a bit later, Serial is 44448X, which according to what I have been told is 1927.

I don't know what the discoloration is on the side above the grip, but another old revolver I bought from the same shop has it too. It is perfectly smooth, no evidence that it was rusted. Both had been in inventory there for at least fifteen years.

Well, that's a bummer about the finish Dave. If it was there that long, must have been some kind of cleaning solvent got spilled on them while they were cleaning the case or something I'll bet. You probably got a good deal on it. Incidently, speaking of deals, you mentioned our guns are about the same price range. Do you think mine is worth more than what I paid? I don't think the side plate has ever been off. Maybe in the future!

AC

I don't know what the price range on these is, but I was pleased to get mine for $325, and yours should be worth considerably more than that; assuming satisfactory bore and mechanicals, at least $150 more than I paid.

Thanks Dave, thats good to know that I didn't get burned! I kind of thought I made a good deal, but I wasn't sure because I didn't know what it really was.

ac, just shot mine (238xxx) today after calling it a day turkey hunting. mine has the pierce sights also and they are just the thing for fine work in the field.

Be sure to shoot it only with "Standard Velocity" ammo. These older ones wern't made for the high velocity. Also, they are much more accurate with standard velocity. My, S/N 4417XX, was made in Sept of 1926.

You got a great buy. In mot much better condition I've seen them listed & selling for $450 to $600.

Thanks guys! I'll get it lettered, and have e-mailed Roy for the shipping date. I guess he is off for the weekend from doing that in the SWCA forum. Thanks to all who gave their dates.
When I bought it, I was debating back and forth between it and a pre model 30 he had for the same price. Couldn't get both, so I think I chose the right one. I already have standard velocity .22's, but no .32 Longs!

Thanks stonefly for telling me about Pierce sights. The front sight reminded me of my Winchester 1894 25-35 SRC's front sight.
