My Nephew came over for some shooting this morning, it was about 25 degrees with a stiff North wind blowing here in Southwest Virginia. I was not looking forward to unzipping my coat to access my pistol, knowing we would be shooting for about an hour.

So, I remembered an old 2" wide leather belt I had in the back of a closet, ran my holster and mag pouch through it and wore it over my coat. Worked good, pistol stayed put on the ATV ride up to my shooting range, stayed in place during the draw of the pistol:

Not pictured were the wool gloves worn on and off during the shooting. G.I. wool glove inserts.

Pistol is a Glock 44, .22 caliber. Nephew got an identical pistol and holster for Christmas, this was the first opportunity for him to wring it out. A cold but pleasant outing.....

Isn't that the holster that's famous for sending bullets down the thigh of the shooter? It is, with the video on the 'net at one time. Maybe move it 'round back next time. Seriously.

Red,

I have heard internet rumors that the Blackhawk "Serpa" had some sort of design flaw that could cause accidental discharge, but after using them for several models of pistols over thirty years, I can't see how. The retention device locks in on the outside of the trigger guard, and must be overcome during the draw with the trigger finger. In my mind, the only way you could have an accidental discharge would be during holstering, if you had your trigger finger inside the trigger guard as you were inserting the pistol into the holster. Much like any other holster.....

I could be wrong, but if there were flawed, I'm thinking they would have stopped selling them.

But, I use the same precautions I do with any other holster, "Stop, slow down, finger off the trigger, holster with care"....
