Bent .223 Round

That is just lube dents - nothing appears “bent”. Will fire ok with no issue and dents will be gone in ejected case.

Looks to me like there is a bulge in the case neck. If there is, it won't chamber. Poor Remington quality control.

Having toured the loading plant in Lonoke, Arkansas, my wonder is that we don't see similar things in every box of ammo. Rounds pour out of those loading machines like water from a firehose, and it's the same in every loading plant. Considering the speed and volume of the process, the consistency we usually see is downright amazing.

I would discard it. It may change the pressure enough to cause a catastrophic issue. My guns and body are worth more than a 223 round

Ditto. Ditch it. Could cause it to be over pressured and being only one round its not worth the risk. Recently had a 22 Federal Punch round get dinged up during a jam. Didn't even think of shooting it. Set it aside and didn't want to risk damaging my pistol or myself.

Lube dents would be on a reloaded case and not on a new factory round. Those do not look like lube dents to me.

The picture seems to show thin deformation areas on the shoulder of the case which would have thinner (weaker) brass in those deformations. I would never shoot that round and it would clearly fall into the category of a unfired conversation piece.

I agree with those being lube dents from production. If it chambers I would probably shoot it. In the years I spent selling ammo at gun shows I have seen much worse in new factory ammo (badly crushed case necks, inverted bullets, inverted primers, etc.). With high volume production and much of the gauging and inspection done by machine things slip through quality control. And it never fails, if there is one bad round in one box of a case of ammo that was always the one that got opened to satisfy the curiosity of a potential customer. Usually followed by me opening the rest of the boxes to see if there are any more in that case................................

right now i have a few rounds of federal solid copper rifle ammo that cant be used at all, wont chamber. One has a case that is formed wrong, wont let the bolt close.
second has a defect on the RIM... its angled, so when it stood up, its a 1/4" off at the bullet tip when placed to a good round. firing pin actually hit it next to the primer....

Have one round of ammunition that has a bulged all around the bullet.
