Sounds like a good deal! You can get used to the heel release with some practice, just do the release and pull the mag on your way to the next mag. Used to surprise a few folks with a early H&K P-7 that way at the IPSC match's. I bought one of our PSP Beretta 96-D's in .40 S&W when they transitioned to the Glock in .45 GAP for the same reason, what a deal.

I saw these mentioned on another forum and several replied that the current 92FS mags and military mags won't work in these guns unless you modify them. I have no idea exactly what you have to do to make them work. Can anybody shed some light on this?

MDS, which makes the factory mag and is owned by Beretta, punches the holes in all the locations for all 92 models. So a current MDS factory mag works with the 92FS, M9, or 92S. So just by Beretta factory mags. They do work in the 92S.
M9 mags don't have the additional hole for the 92S release, because they are built by a government contractor specifically for the M9. The US Army never used the 92S, so they don't call for a 92S hole in the contract.
I know people who have converted them. They drilled a hole in the body to get the radius portion, and then filed out the hole to the rear to get the more rectangular portion. Frankly, I don't think it's worth your time considering MDS factory mags are so available and relatively cheap. In the mag ban days, it was a different story.

Buds gun shop also has them for $299 cash + shipping "Italian Police guns that have been "gone through" by the Beretta factory."
I ordered one from Southern Ohio Guns today, they describe their's as "excellent" and "looks unfired" - $295.00.
The picture certainly fits the description. I'll be interested to see what generation locking block they have.
I have a Maryland-made 92 FS, so hopefully those magazines will work. If not, hey they're selling the pistols, somebody has to get the magazines to sell.
I wonder what the Italian military police have gotten as replacements. I can't imagine them giving up Beretta's, maybe they got some with a rail.

In order to meet requirements of some law enforcement agencies, Beretta modified the Beretta 92 by adding a slide-mounted combined safety and decocking lever, replacing the frame mounted manual thumb safety. This resulted in the 92S which was adopted by several Italian law enforcement and military units. The later relocation of the magazine release button means these models (92 & 92S) cannot necessarily use later magazines, unless they have notches in both areas.

Palmetto Armory still hasn't shipped the 92s yet. But I did find a
Colt 1903 hammerless .32 at a local pawn shop today. Put $35.00 down. Looked up the S/N 1702xx and it comes up 1914. Very cool gun. Looks like a mini 1911a1. Palm grip safety. Nickel finish. 2 mags. Any of you guy's know of these. Finish is of a 100 year old carry gun. But everything works. No dings or dents.

I bought one from SOG. I got the excellent, hand picked and it looks virtually new. See photo below.
There are literally no marks on it. It is tight and the slide is very smooth and the sights are of the taller version,very easy to see.

I bought one two years ago, I think. Definitely more than a year ago. Works great, shoots, hits accurately if I do my part, etc. Onliest diff is the funky mag button on the base. No big deal says I; I can remove the magazine with no problem.
I have shot the Beretta and Taurus version. They always work, but they are just too big for me.
