Best 22 handguns.

For Target work my greatest joy is my S&W Mod 41, shoot it most. For carry it is my Walther PPKS 22, Made in 1970 she has never failed me and my favorite to carry in a shoulder holster. We go everywhere together. Grips are from Taiwan.

I'm not sure what the 'Best' rimfire handgun is, but, since I don't shoot any rimfire pistol competition and just plink, and/or, small game hunt, I bought a Browning Buckmark 5.5 Field model years ago. I have never had any kind of problem with it after thousands of rounds through it. This little sucker shoots well enough to enter into any type of rimfire pistol competition. Great trigger and accurate. I recently got a Ruger Mark IV 22/45 Lite. It's not a bad little pistol, but, my Buckmark will out-shoot it all day long.

My favorite and only .22 pistol is my Mark III. It sports a 5" bull barrel and a 2x7 Burris scope and the groundhog in the picture was taken at 85 yards from a solid rest (mirror on my Yukon).

You know, "best" is very subjective - "Best for what?"

For just a fun gun, lightweight, accurate, and reliable, I like this Ruger MkII (the best of the Mk series, in my opinion) modified with a Tactical Solutions lightweight compensated upper. Easy to pack in the field, too.

If you are talking target shooting, none is better than this High Standard "space gun" made in the heyday of quality and accuracy. This eats anything and puts it where you want it every time, and without fail. More bells and whistles than a freight train, all designed to make it the best. These guns ruled the bullseye circuit for years and years. I was so envious of those that had them when I did competition shooting years ago.

As for revolvers, I would never part with this S&W Model 18-4 for any reason. Greatest training revolver ever made.

Almost too many answers to list!

1) S&W Model 17-6 was my first ever handgun and it was PERFECT for starting me on a life long journey and love for revolvers and handguns

2) I believe that my 5-1/2" bull barrel stainless Ruger Mark II has eaten more ammo than anything else I own and has never let me down

3) I find that my Sig (Hammerli) Trailside has been the best rimfire gun that I own for getting new shooters started and addicted to rimfire handguns

4) There is a sweetness that seems to have no equal to a Woodsman or Woodsman variant, I love my 1952 Challenger and 1955 Huntsman and anyone who knows me knows that I am almost no fan whatsoever of Colt

5) I waited too long in life to finally bring home a S&W Model 41 but my 5-1/2" Model 41 from 1991 has been an amazing pistol and it runs like a top

6) My GSG 1911-22 is hands down the best -CHEAP- gun that I've ever owned, runs and runs and runs and always brings plinking grins

7) I just love the mechanics of my H&R "Sportsman" pre-999 top break 9-shot revolver. The DA trigger is redonkulous and could damage your finger but the single action is decent and the top-break action is simply fun on any range day

1953 vintage K-22, 61 vintage Model 53 which is very accurate with hand loads and Yellow Jackets in the inserts. Most accurate is My Hi Standard Victor.

I bought a well-used modei 18 back in the 70's, and liked it a lot - shot several squirrels and other small game before a good friend wanted it badly, and a model 17 came available. I like it, but not like the 4". A bit later, I bought a model 41 with extendable rib over a 5" heavy barrel (for 120 '73 or '74 dollars, if you can believe it). I shot a lot of indoor bullseye competition with it - even managed a 99 in rapid fire one evening. I still have it and the 17, but tend to shoot a lot more centerfire these days.

Best bang for the buck, is the Ruger MK III, MKIV. However, a Marvel upper for your 1911 is remarkable.
Once you get to the $1000 range, the Model 41 rules. My Model 41s have been VERY ammunition sensitive, and I experienced too many alibies.

Having owned virtually all the target guns available in the last 60 years, including Colt Target Woodsman, Smith Model 41, Browning Medalist, Hammerli 208S, Rugers, Walthers, etc., I would conclude that the Pardini has been the most accurate and most reliable .22 I have used in competition. However, it is a 5-shot gun made for bullseye.

K-22 and Ruger Mk II. Sights and barrels as you like them. I've seen 10's of thousands of rounds through a variety of 22's. Those two are the most reliable and can be as accurate as any. A lady student of mine can wax me with her Hammerli, but I'm sure she could do it with a Ruger as well.

I have never had the pleasure of shooting a Korth, but my choice for a semi auto is a model 41 5 1/2 inch and for a revolver a full lug model 17-6 4 inch or a 4 inch 617 full lug

In Smiths have 17, 18, 34 blue, & 34(?) airweight, M41 w/5.5 w/extended site, 7.5 & a 5.5 with dot. Also have a number of Hi Standard target pistols, Service Ace, plus a couple others.

M17 in revolver & M41(best 22 ever), are my favorites. I polish the internals of my revolvers & really smooth out the double action, but most, especially the old guns, are fine right out of the box.

Where does one find a source for a Korth? That 22LR/22WMR sounds interesting? so do some of their others i have read about.

I own a 317, 617 (unfortunately not a Mtn Gun) ,34 flat latch, 634, Buckmark, Ruger III Hunter. The last 2 have red dots mounted. Finally, a 22 conversion unit for a Glock. Unfortunately, I let the best get away, a custom S&W 18 with a round butt and dull nickel finish. It was my practice gun when I carried a round butt Model 66 357. It made me into a fair revolver shooter. I let it go to get the Glock conversion one day after we switched duty guns when I had left my brain on the nightstand. I have shot the conversion unit for the Glock a lot but am still a better revolver shooter. Now that I am retired I still carry at least one J frame along with whatever is primary for that time of year.
