Best ammo

For my guns with 1/12 twist barrels I shoot 55grn bullets.

In my 1/9 to 1/7 twist guns I shoot 62grn to 75grn bullets.

Works for me.

Rule 303

SpokanePaul, the twist rate in your rifle is very important in bullet selection. Weight being part of the issue but length as well. You can have a lighter, longer bullet that will require a tighter twist rate than a shorter, lighter bullet will.

Bullet make is the next selection, depending on what you want. Lapua, Federal, and Black Hills make bullets recommended for long range work, for a price of course.

Me, I save a few magazines for the good stuff and have Lake City or PMC for everything else where extreme accuracy isn't critical.

It's a 1/8 twist, a little faster than I originally thought. Thaths great info, worth the price of my membership . The very next time I'm shopping ammo I will look for I information on bullet size regarding length as well as weight. Cool!

1:8 is considered a more flexible twist and is a bit more forgiving than 1:7 but I think you are limited to a 70ish grain bullet. Do some poking around here and an internet search in matching .223 to twist rate.

The plus side is that you can go lighter than a 1:7 can but finding the limit is going to be hit or miss since most everyone is more worried about how big they can go and not how low. From what I've seen, you could probably go as low as a 50 grain but the ammo make and what your barrel likes will play into that.

I've read that some people can shoot as low as 52-55 grain in a 1:7 and be ok but your mileage may vary. I'll find out soon enough when I get my rifle built since it has a 1:7.
