What bullet have you used to deer hunt with and how did it perform ? What kind of velocity where you getting also ? Just looking for some info on what others have tried and worked good for them. Should I have put this in reloading? Thanks Jimmy C.

I have basically settled on one bullet/load for the 500 for all purposes, and did take a deer with it two years back. It was a close shot, roughly 30 yards over the iron sights, and when the gun came down from recoil all I could see of the deer was his four feet sticking straight up in the air. The load is a Cast Performance 440 grain WFNGC, a so-called 'heat-treated solid' although I'm not sure how one heat-treats lead, but oh well. It is a Keith style bullet. I load it with 40 grains of WW296. It isn't a maximum load, but not far short of that, plenty warm. It is not too far removed from the factory Cor-Bon 440 grain lead-bullet loading. It slaps stuff down.

In the 500? Would it really matter what you used?

I have only hunted with my 460 and used factory Hornady 200gr. I am in the process of getting my reloading up and going for both of them.I am looking for some ideas on bullets for the 500, I have it down to 3 choices as of now for the 500, two 350gr and now that Hornady is putting there 300gr out for reloading it will probely be my first choice to try.

I use the barnes 275gr XPB loaded with 42gr of H110. Not sure about velocity but I shot a deer with it at 85yds and it left an exit hole about the size of a quarter. The shot was through the lungs so the bullet didnt hit any large bones. Can't wait to use it for woodchucks this spring.

I am like MTKTM, I use one bullet for everything I have taken. One of the 500 Mags is set up with a 370 gr. hard cast gas checked bullet at around 1700 fps. Deer, hogs and black bear have fallen to it.

My 4 inch 500 mag is set up for the 440 gr. bullets at 1500 fps with the occasional 700 gr. bullet at 1200 fps. .
I don't like having a bunch of different bullets loaded for one gun. I find one the will work for the biggest game I intend to shot, and the one that give me the best accuracy, and anything smaller than my biggest game will fall to it with no problem.

No such thing as overkill.
