Best concealable 9mm pistol?

Back in the early 90's I was assigned to a multi agency task force. During one of our joint shoots, a State Agent had a 3953. I asked him to shoot it, and I fell in love. It was light, concealable, and with the revolver-like DA trigger, I could carry stuck inside my waistband without fear of blowing my butt off. I got ready to buy one, when our District forearms Officer and I were talking one day. I told him of my lust for a 3953, and that I was looking to buy one. He told me not to buy one, he had them in inventory for issue. The next day a FedEx package arrived at the office containing a NIB 3953. I cleaned it and headed to the range to proof and qualify with it.

I carried it for nearly two years as my EDC gun. I had a Glock 17 for warrants and high risk arrests. Then the policy changed and they removed all the 6906 and 3953 models from the field. I was quite bummed. I was issued a Glock 26 in it's place. It was just not the same.

About five years ago I got a good deal on a nice 3953, and I still carry it from time to time.

I vote for the 4th Gen Chief Special

While I have several compact 9mm 3rd Gens (3914, 3914DAO, 3913TSW, & CS-9) I'd be lying if I didn't say I find my CSX as more concealable & comfortable to carry AIWB.

Plus it holds more of those little fire sticks inside. ;)

Now if it was only a TDA. :p

For a 3.1" bbl, I guess that'll have to do. :p

If you want to pocket carry and don't mind plastic consider the Ruger EC9S.

It's just my opinion because I own one and find it superb for its intended purpose - but:

I think that the S&W Model 3913 has more nearly approached the ideal carry 9mm pistol than any other gun made since. It's quite slim, compact, reliable and accurate.

You can take your plastic non-hammered striker-fired modern wonders and find that they just do not measure up against the 3913.

I'm sure there might be a few who might agree! Smith should bring it back!

Paladin, I would have expected you to carry a single action army. :)

365

I no longer carry a 9mm since I found my shield45, but when I did, nothing else I shot came close to the 365. I really liked the csx and the trigger didnt bother me once I got used to it, but it shot just slightly worse for me than the 365 did and i hate the stupid sleeves on the 12 round mags. 365 with 124gr +p winchester defender(red box) was way more accurate than it had any right to be. It was the first gun I shot +p in and while the extra recoil was noticeable, it wasn't bad enough to take away from the accuracy I could get out of it. Bare in mind, I've never shot a compact 3rd gen in any caliber, so I dont know the magic that was the 39xx series pistols.

EDC rotation here:

P365
P365 xmacro
G43x MOS

Was G43x MOS for a couple years before stumbling into the P365 world. So nice to have choices. 3913 or CS9 are both wonderful but hard to acquire and pre-RDS.

I like an EDC off the shelf for quick replacement should the need arise.
