BEST Concealed Carry Revolver

For the South Florida heat, I consider my 342 with CT lg405 grips the "best" cc revolver. It completely disappears under a T shirt and shorts carried AIWB. Naturally, I of course understand and accept the limitations of a five shot snub.

Been carrying a '75 model Colt Agent. Just replaced it with a 66-2. Much easier for me to shoot accurately. Weighs a little more, but not enough to be a bother.

I'm going to go with a 21/2" model 19, or a 3" model 13. They are not hard to carry concealed, but are pretty tough on the ankle. For the ankle, it's a model 42.

Coat pocket in winter, IWB in summertime.
6 shots and a lot easier to handle than a J-Frame.
Into it for about $200, so no big loss if its ever used in anger.

Carried a S&W 642 for 6 - 7 years. Lightweight, 38+P round & concealed Hammer are ideal for CC. Speed-loaders are inconvenient to carry. Switched to compact, 1911 a couple of years ago simply because of convenience of magazines.

What is your preferred S&W concealed revolver? Yes, we would prefer a Remington 870, some a 1911, or the Battleship Missouri in a gunfight, but please limit your responses to Smith revolvers. I have a CS9 and CS45 that are my carry guns, but as the years go by, I find that I prefer revolvers when in a hurry. Looking at the S&W Model 640 and similar models, any suggestions? Thank you!

Nothing to laugh at; worn and scratched bluing and dented and scratched wood grips is characteristic of a carry gun that actually gets carried. Blued guns do not stay pristine very long at all when they are actually carried since just a few times in and out of a holster will begin to wear at rub points.

Honest answer? An earlier Charter Arms Undercover. The perfect concealable .38 Special revolver, in my opinion. Compact, lightweight, well-made, and dependable.

Nothing wrong with that. I've come across a few older ones and they are well made and finished.

The new ones are functionality good, but the fit/finish not nearly as good. I personally do not like any of their alloy framed guns, but the steel framed ones are fine by me.

I don't know if it's "the best" or not, but a 642-2 is good enough for me. I swapped out the pretty wood grips for a set of Hogue Recoil Tamers...(or something like that).



I was one who poo-pooed the J-frame until I tried one.

I have a 60, 649, 642, Ruger SP101, and Colt Cobra. I love them all, but the 642 is the only revolver I qualified with and have registered with my Dept (in order to carry as back up and/or off duty).

Well, post 78 and no one else has wrote it yet - from the diversity of opinions here you may or may not have yet found the best CC revolver 'for you'. Size, weight, pocket/IWB/OWB, how you dress all come into play. A range trip with some of the suggested guns may be in order.

If we ever carried one, it would be this. Just finished polishing under the hood and restocked it. Gunsmith is going to dovetail the ramp for a Fiber Optic front sight for us when it comes in. Holster is a Andrews, and the Hydra-shoks are full race.......

I like the 640..not too bulky or heavy, and it is very comfortable to carry when using the DeSantis IWB. I use the pocket holster when wearing a coat or cargo shorts.
