Best credit card?

I like Amex and Discover, especially Discover is nice with their cash back. I buy gas on it and pay it off monthly. Then get a statement credit which takes it down even further.

Currently my favorite CC is the Costco Amex Card - but that will soon be replaced by Costco in March with their new Costco Citbank Visa Card. Costco gets the best deals on CC's and they give you the HIGHEST & BEST points.

Been exceedingly happy w/Citi and the ThankYou Preferred card. Points are decent, free FICO every month and $0 charge/yr.

I have 2 large bank issued Credit Cards ( I totally refuse to get a debit card) Anytime I have had to call about something I get a honest to goodness person that speaks "American'' English and seem to have no problem answering my question or concern. Their offices are physically located in this country!

Their rates are decent I suppose but as I pay in full each month I really do not care. I get cash back, so every now and then I have them post it to my card account and get a much smaller bill.:D

In September one card had an offer of 25% more points added to your transaction amount for that month. I had a whole house generator system and another large purchase that month so I put them on that card. To be honest I was surprised the generator company would take a card for the whole shot as they pay about 2% to the company, but they did and I took full advantage of it!:)

I was a bit surprised to see all the positive comments about Discover.

In my part of Florida, at least, I really don't know any place that takes Discover. I suppose some stores at the malls may do so, but we never go to the malls.

I have 4 cards and really am thinking of dropping two. I would keep my Cabela's as I really like their customer service, talking to am American in English.

I also would probably keep my Capital One card since I have had it since about 1975ish. It pays me money when and if I use it.

My vote goes to Discover. Excellent customer service. Easy to track. Lots of options. A couple of years ago, someone hacked my number and bought over $5,000 of furniture. I was alerted by Discover, I disclaimed the purchase, and I had a new card with a different number by FedEX express in one day. I usually call them when I'm going out of town to be sure they will accept charges from where I'm going. I get alerted when my balance exceeds a certain amount, and I can see my purchase history on line with no hassle. I can pick the day I wish to pay off my balance. I believe Discover has been rated tops in customer service for several years running, and I can see why. I've always paid my balance in full each month, and I've never had a service or interest charge. Plus they have a nice cashback bonus plan. Amazon is keyed into it, and when I buy a book or whatever on Amazon, I usually find my cashback amount sufficient to cover it, so it's like getting it for free. Nice to encounter a company that does things right, for a change.

Pay off every month.....

We had American Express for our business expenses and it worked very well for traveling but a lot of places wouldn't take it because it was hard for business to get their money. Maybe things have changed. We had to account our expenses every month to pay it off. Some people got a little (!) carried away with it and lost their jobs. The company wasn't completely innocent because they issued them arbitrarily and just said, "Use them". They didn't ask anybody if they couldn't handle it.

Cabela's

Since this credit card question was posted on the Smith and Wesson Forum, I will say that if you have a card from such a place as Cabela's, the points you earn can be used to buy things that go "bang".

best card is no card if you can't control yourself

There, I added to your statement to make it correct.

I used to be all about "no credit cards". Then I learned that they can be great for someone that isn't using them for things they can't afford.

I pay for my daily purchases through my Capital One card. I no longer worry about someone having access to my own money through the use of my debit card. End of the month it gets paid off. Like clockwork.

I get 1.5% cash back for all purchases. This year I bought me a new gun from my cash back points. A new gun for spending habits that are not changed. Free money IF you are smart about it!

American Express through Costco. Only problems are not everyone takes it.

I was trying to describe the card I like, not name one!

I have a Discover, a Samuel L Jackson Capital One,
A USAA MasterCard and a USAA Amex - all cash back!
I don't want any points, Miles, coupons, etc.
Just cash!
I also don't have to pay anybody- like Costco to get the card.

Problems with customer service?
I don't actually deal with them that often.
But if I have a problem that I can't resolve pretty quick, I will close that *** faster than- are speeding bullet!
When you have good credit and several cards, you are in control.
So show those folks that you do control your personal finances.
They want to bully you, don't let them!

I admit I do use the card but as you always pay off the balance monthly......
