So I have a Model 28 that I would like to add ivory too. Real ivory is not in the budget right now, so who makes the most realistic feel and looking faux ivory grips and/or is there another material I should consider that will have the same look and feel. Thanks for your time

American holly is a very white wood, often called “poor man’s ivory”. I have a few sets and really like it.

I have had several pairs of real elephant ivory grips nothing else compares to the real thing. I currently have giraffe bone grips on one of my CC and most people confuse it for ivory. I like the giraffe bone better than my other composite and wood pistol grips.

Absolutely nothing faux Feels like real Ivory ... when you hold real Ivory you can tell the difference .
I agree with Leonard (post #3) the next closest grip material is Bone .
See if you can locate a maker who has Giraffe Bone ... check out
MD Grips ... Md Grips - Custom Elk Pistol Grips, 1911 Grips, Custom 1911 Grips They have some great looking Giraffe Bone grips . I'm sure there are other makers so look around .
Good Luck ,
Gary

Real ivory gets "toothy" with sweaty hands too because the grain stands up.

While obviously not the real thing...Magna Tusk is pretty cost effective and looks good. They have an ebay store. I have them on several single-action revolvers.

I’m looking for a “white” material that will maintain relief carving to make grips from. I would like to find grips made of this material so all I have to do is the carving. Most materials like 3d printed and acrylic cast are like trying to whittle a gum drop. Would also be nice if at least semi porous so it could be aged a little. So far found nothing suitable. Have no experience with bone.
