Hey all, new M&P 9c owner here. Got a question on this gun and ammo...

Was just wondering what is the best grain for this gun?

I am new to pistols in general but was reading online about twist rate and heavy bullets tend to be more accurate.. is this true?

Ive been shooting bulk 115 FMJ ammo and tend to have accuracy problems so should I pick a box of 124 grain or 147 grain ammo and give it a shot?

At the distances you are likely to shoot a compact pistol, any quality US commercial ammunition is likely more accurate than you.

Accuracy problems with beginners are solved by lessons and proper practice, generally.
If you want to try a higher price ammo, I'd suggest 124gr HP in any standard brand, like Federal, for example. Unless your bulk ammo is really poor, I doubt you'll see any significant difference.
A 3" gun with 2" ammo for a 5" shooter still gives 5" groups.

Most all guns have a particular loading they prefer, but at pistol ranges, few will notice the difference. 115 grain is fine for practice, but I'd step up to 124 or higher for SD use. Try different brands in different weights until you find what works best.

Nothing to lose by trying different brands and weights in your 9C. My wife's likes 115gr +P, my daugter's 124gr. +P, and mine 147gr.

OKFC05 is correct however. You will seldom see the difference except off a bench.

For the first time the other day my M&P key holed some 147 LFP at 10 yds. Really surprised me as some 147 loads are relatively accurate in this gun and 124's on average do best out of this tube.

Read up and then concentrate on your grip and front sight picture and your groups should improve.

Hello ,I would just like to add in my research ,
using +p in 3.5 barrel the powder does not fully burn
leaving you with not to need +p in shorter bbl length's
hope this helps from the mfgs i have read

I'd snag some Speer Gold Dot in 115, 124, 124+P, 124+P Short Barrel and 147; shoot a magazine's worth of each through your M&P and pick whichever you and your gun like best.

That way you have a preferred load, and a bunch of stored defense ammo, all of which will do the job.

Mine seems to like the 124 speer gold dot, but guns vary in what they like. Try a few different weights and see what your gun shoots best with.
