Best Grip?

That gap is easy to fix visually speaking. I know as I did it on a Shotgun when added a slip on Hogue grip that didn't fit perfect and here is how to "fix" it..

Black RTV silicon can be squirted in there to fill the gap, smoothed out with a finger, and when it dries it will dry and look like it was a professional factory job and fill that gap visually. Plus, since it is RTV, it "could" be removed with no damage to the gun. As well, it is color matched black. This is what I plan to do. Maybe I will shoot a before/after to show the proof of concept.

Here is the gap

I use an Airsoft H&K 416 knock off grip. It is perfectly small diameter at the top for younger shooters and a nice palm swell for larger hands.

locked-n-loaded, i LOVE that idea. that solution never occurred to me because i never came across that problem before.

i look forward to your "after" pics. my wedge for the MIAD is supposed to arrive in the mail today. while it will completely remove the gap, the RTV could help further smooth the transition where the wedge and the receiver meet. i am so excited now. :)

what can be used to remove it in case i make a mistake? i don't want to damage the polymer. i heard acetone removes RTV, but i would think it would damage the rifle as well. if it is still wet, it will just wipe off? Never worked with the stuff before. Thanks.

Incidentally I put the UPG-16 grip on the Airsoft rifle I took the H&K grip off. It is a nice grip, but I found with the inserts it still didn't get small enough for children.

Black RTV (bought at the auto store, used to make head gaskets) will work for a fact. The beauty is that it is (1) black (2) dries very stiff and firm and fills voids but has some sort of pliability left (3) easy to mold with finger and wipe excess away and keeps it's shape you make while it firms up (4) easy to peal off and rub off with your finger as it is just essentially silicon/rubber. Nothing special to take off, peal off the metal and rub hard with your finger and the RTV will peal away.

RTV is an awesome product to have around the house, I use it for all sorts of things and this is just 1 example :) I have even used it to meet CA mag laws and make the floor plate sealed, but yet it would not be hard to unseal when I go to say CO and shoot.

On my shotgun, it filled in voids around the ill fitting Houge pull over rubbery grip and since it dries like a firm yet rubbery rubber, it is perfect and plenty strong - and in that use, it has to withstand hand pressure and keep its form. And it works perfect. In this case, it is only for a nice cosmetic transition to fill an uncritical void, so it is the product of choice. I will do it soon and post up. I took a hard digger on my mountain bike on Saturday and dislocated my middle finger at a 45 degree angle, so I don't have the precision dexterity right now a I would like :(

I use this grip on 2 other AR's and they have zero gap. So, this tells me, the plastic lower on the S&W is out of spec.

The 15-22 lower is not "out of spec". It is not an exact copy of an AR-15. AR-15 safety selector switches won't fit in the 15-22 because the lower receiver is wider.

Really? Hmm so will AR quick take down pins fit? Will AR triggers fit? Lower width related pieces don't fit then?

I like the Ergo, have them on a couple AR's and ordered one the other day for my 15-22. They work pretty well with my average size paws.

Triggers will fit, they fit inside the lower which is "in spec". The pins might not. You get specific 15-22 pins because the overall width of the 15-22 is "out of spec".

The thing is, they use a different spec, so they are all "in spec", for a 15-22.

it is my understanding that trigger groups fit... i think it is maybe because you re-use the 15-22 hammer and trigger pins? I have heard that you sometimes have to use anti-walk pins. Didn't really look into trigger stuff, so i don't know much.

idk about take down pins.

Thanks for the info about the RTV. I will go pick up a tube today. Your finger accident sounds painful. I just had lumbar spinal surgery 4 weeks ago. Can't work for another 2 months, so I got a lot of free time on my hands for projects like this.

Here is a post photo with RTV. I "could" go more flush even, but I just filled in the gap, smoothed down with my pinky, called it good. Took 5 minutes. 10x better than the first photo with the gap.

The lower is thicker than a Mil-Spec AR lower and will need some 15-22 specific stuff. All AR FCG's will work in the 15-22, however, if you are using a drop in FCG you will need to use the KNS pins that are 15-22 specific. NDZ also makes an SBR (B.A.D. type lever) and an oversize charging latch for this gun. Good luck with your gun.

wait.. the Magpul BAD won't work on this?

Just searched the topic since you tipped me off to the issue, but I see others modded the Magpul to fit so that tells me, I can as well.

Wait a sec, what are you using for sling swivel there?

No, the MagPul BAD doesn't work without doing some bending on it. The lever from NDZ is designed for the 15-22 from the start. Why jury rig something when a proper part is available?

I feel the same way about screwing around with filler and so forth on a MagPul grip when there are proper fitting grips available from Hogue.

I guess people just think there's something "magical" about the MagPul name. I'm not badmouthing MagPul, I have AFG2s on three 15-22s and love them.
