Best house gun?

Here we actually have 4 house guns except for when we babysit the niece and nephews, and then they are secured, but one is still handy if needed. We have no children of our own.

I have a 12 gauge pump in the bedroom. We also have 3 revolvers that are handy wherever one of us is. My wife keeps her Ruger GP100 on the bed stand, she also keeps her H&K USP .45 in the console between our recliners in the living room as well as a S&W 60-10 .357 in one of the upper kitchen cabinets. Both .357 Magnums are loaded with Remington Golden Saber rounds which while still powerful are a lot less noisy and less muzzle flash. I know that she has had experiences that makes her want to have a firearm within 2 steps.

I like the shot gun for a few reasons. One is that if woken up it takes more thought to pull out the shotgun, rack it and move the safety. All while you are doing this your brain is waking up so you can have a more rational thought process. The shot gun can also be used as a club or used to block something like a baseball bat swung at you. I also dont worry about over penetration even with 3" OOB or a slug as I have some distance and hills blocking the neighbors.

Heres mine, it does have a sling not shown. Also in the picture the stock is at its longest position. The stock is a Knoxx recoil reducing with a Houge fore grip. I bought the gun new in the 1980's sometime. Ive just changed it as needed...

My 642 is always within arm's reach, but the bedside gun (as per the CEO's request) is a 5946 with two magazines of 115gr JHP. If I'm in bed, my 642 sits next to it.

Ammo selection resolves the blinding flash and the deafening blast is not an issue if one uses electronic hearing protection. I keep a set of Peltor Tac6S's next to my HD shotguns. Electronic muffs afford you very keen hearing with no bang. If I don't have time to put them on then it is a life or death situation where I would rather be deaf than dead.

Yes, I forgot to mention, some ammunition manufacturers such as Buffalo Bore specifically choose low flash powders for their defense ammunition.
