Best Non-1911 45 Acp Pistol

Dang, I thought I'd be the first to be a smart alec and say the best non-1911 pistol is a S&W REVOLVER.

Frankly, I like 'em BETTER that any good 1911 I've ever owned!!!

Unless I've been drinkin' hard and long (coffee that is), they'll put a cylinder into one ragged hole at 10 yards every time, and roll coke cans with boring regularity too at 75 yards.

I'm most partial of my chopped barrel, 1980-made 25-2 . . . don't need a long barrel on this one!!!

To shoot, if I can't have a 1911, I like the S&W 4506. I consider it about the mildest .45 going, in the recoil department. But it is a bear to lug around, and for that purpose, I'd prefer a P220.

If buying one now without any baggage from mags and gear already owned, I am pretty sure it would be an M&P. I've seen some results from 5000+ round testing (in a week or so, as I recall) that were just outstanding. With the work that is being done to set them up with the Aimpoint T-1, this will be a great combination.

I love my 1911s, currently carry one on duty, but I'm stepping into the modern age and am transitioning to a new FNP-45 Tactical for duty carry and home defense. Same grip angle as the 1911, 15+1 capacity, DA/SA or cocked and locked carry, trigger guard large enough for a gloved finger, supressor ready w/tall Trijicon night sights, milled from the factory for a Trijicon RMR red dot, and it weighs less loaded than my Springfield duty gun. If guns could evolve, this is what the 1911 would have become-

Cool looking gun and great sight..I shot a .45 with one of those on it...better than a laser...:)

It's between my Sig P220 stainless, Sig P220 Combat and my two Beretta 8045F Cougars with rotary barrels.

Glock 36. I have one in the gun room. When I'm playing in there at night and hear something in the rest of the house, it's in my fist as I investigate.

P220

is the sig p220 a good gun for lead semi wad cutters ? Whats the going rate for a P220 ?

This one ought to get some folks talking . What is the best non-1911 45 acp pistol and why?

"BEST" is dependent on what it's intended use is. For cowboy action shooting a SAA would be best, for CC a G19 could be best.
My "BEST" is a S&W 686 SSR, 4' brl because it's used for home defense. Sorry it's not a .45 but it is my best for that purpose. All my .45's are 1911's

Wheel gun - S&W 625 Model of 1988
Traditional metal - Sig P220
"Tupperware" - Glock 21

Springfield XDm in .45

It shoots like a dream. I can shoot 2" groups at 25 yards easily. It feels very nice in the hand (same angle as a 1911) and runs great. Oh, and it holds 13+1 capacity, has 3 different backstraps for adjustment, and comes with a bunch of other extras.

I'm not much on polymer ,but the springer Xd and HK Usp are pretty good. I'm more of a if ain't steel it ain't real kinda guy. The HK USP is scary accurate and feels great. The springer has a good feel and a good trigger. Just my 2 cents worth.

I sold my XDM 45 and bought a FNP45 Tactical and I love it. See WC145's post for a pic cause mine looks exactly like his! It is my current home defense/bedside gun. It's not much good for civilian cc but for a service weapon and for HD it is hard to beat! I didn't know if I would like the Trijicon RMR, but after trying it I'm sold. Sig P220 is also a classic and a close second IMO.
