If you could ONLY HAVE 1 .45ACP....

Entschuldigung.

My Choice

Either my 645 or my Kimber Stainless Target II. Those are the two I have right now, with the Kimber being more accurate and the 645 being able to feed empty fired brass....tough choice, but depending on the circumstances, I'd probably go 1911 for sheer magazine availability.....but not by much.

An early 1970's Colt Combat Commander with hard chromed frame, blued slide, S&W K frame rear sight and excellent trigger job. I own it and it's my favorite. Sorry, no photo at this time.

A 1911 of the 5" variety without a doubt.

Best 45 I ever owned was my Sig P220....IF I could only have one, it would be the P220....ONCE AGAIN, I sold it......and have regretted EVERY day of it

Man, that is a tough deal. I feel your pain. I would be glad to sell you one of mine but I only have three :p

No problems in the last 20 years but who knows, something might break in the next 20 years or the next 80,000 rounds and I would need a spare :)

SIG P220, nothing else is close.

Second choice is a Glock 21 Gen 4

Third is either a Kimber, S&W, Ruger, Springfield, or anything by Les Baer.

Nothing wrong with the M&P's I guess, I just don't have any experience with them.

Instead of selling my P220, I should have bought another one....
I liked it that much....

That's what I did. My original two tone and newer one with rail and SRT. I liked the SRT so much, I bought several SRT kits and put them in the 9mm and 40SW.

I can go for a 1911 at the range but for do anything anywhere, the Sig 220 is my choice.

I had a full size MP 45 and it functioned fine but no where as accurate as the Sig or XD.

Yes this is OT but it's just another 1911 thread now anyway.;)

Only One?

I have a number of .45's including the Sig Sauer P220, Glock 30, S & W Model 25-2's, S & W Model 625's, S & W M & P 45's, Colt SAA .45 ACP's, and a number of different 1911's including Colts, Kimbers, Sigs, and a Les Baer.

If I could only keep one, it would be tough but I would probably pick my Les Baer 1911 Thunder Ranch Special 5" .45 ACP. It runs great and is very, very, very accurate!

I am glad that I don't have to pick just one as I like all of them!!! :)

...and your choices WERE LIMITED TO the S&W 645/745/4506, S&W M&P .45 or any 1911 of your choosing, WHICH and WHY would be your choice. Caveat: this .45 would be your EDC, HD, target, hunting, 'do-it-all' handgun.

Let the discussion begin!

I am fortunate enough to have nine 1911 pistols in my safe. Eight are Colts and one is a Les Baer. Without a doubt, my 1993 vintage 1991-A1 -- parkerized finish, nothing fancy, clearly the humblest of all those Colts -- would be my go-to all-purpose pistol. It is more accurate than I am, and has been 100% reliable over the years. A close second choice would be my 1991-A1 Commander.

Entschuldigung.

I would think so!

Just kidding. I know the thing looks like a brute but understand it is an excellent pistol. :)

Rather than this being just "another 1911 thread," I think it has been interesting in that the newer designs do not seem to be held in much favor here. Remembering that the P220 hails from 1975 or thereabouts, the most popular mentions have at least 36-years behind them, and in the case of 1911s, many more. Doesn't seem like there is much going on in pistol design in terms of actually advancing the state of the art.

I have an M&P .45. It is a decent pistol, but it cannot be fairly compared with a 1911. Sure, it is perfectly serviceable (particularly at close range), but there is just no "feel" to the gun. And if you are real, dyed-in-the-wool pistol shooter, a pistol without feel (some think of it as "soul," maybe a bit of a silly word in this case) is like a car without a little extra horsepower. Not much there - just a machine. I never pick the thing up, just to "admire" it. It just sits there... waiting to do its job.

When I see the overwhelming supply of, and apparent interest in, pistols like that, I wonder if we have crossed a threshold and the pistol shooter, at least as I think of a pistol shooter, is quickly becoming a thing of the past. :o

Springfield Operator with full rail would be my first choice.
