I love mine. A great, on the farm, carry gun. Enough for coyotes and not too heavy.

"Best" for what?

That said.............................................

Silly question .......... "The Registered Magnums".....

followed IMHO by the 3" 66s then

the 4 inch 19s...... no dash to -4 P&R then

back to the 27s in a tie with the 29s then

the work horse M&Ps and Model 10s and in a final blaze of revolver glory......

the 686/586 ( pre lock).

Honorable mention to the Models 66, 28,13/65 14,15,17 and 18 and 36/60.

Edit: having second thoughts on the Model 17 as Honorable mention......it should move up the list above the 686/586......

Edit KLYDE..... get some Spegle Boot grips for that 66!!!!! Well worth the money and the time......got 3 set up that way!!!!!!!!!

IMG_1519.JPGNo disagreement on it being a great gun, but I have to be careful, my 624 is the jealous type. :D

S&W offers a wide variety of great revolvers but, the one that stands out as the most versatile is the K-frame series. I consider the 19/66 guns the perfect balance between size and power in a revolver.

The model60 cheifs special. An instant iconic handgun when it came out. Still going strong today. It has the distiction of being the first stainless steel production revolver.

I'm on board with the 696. After all, it's a .44 Spl.
I just wish Ruger would offer a GP100 in .44 Spl.

Great Tradition: Past, Current and Future

Great thread!!! I am late to this game, just started this year. My S&W collection are all 2012/13 production models including a 617 10 shot 6", 686+ 4", and 629 5" Classic.

I'm not saying they are in the same class as these beautiful pieces displayed here. That said, when I go to the range for a day of wheel gunnin, I get so many visitors and questions that I realize that these 3 guns laid side x side are very attractive and people love it when I offer them a cylinder's worth of shooting.

What I am saying is my small collection of S&W revolvers impresses a lot of people, obviously not as informed as the members here, but nobody walks away disappointed from shooting any of them. Rather, they go away jabbering like mad about, "I really need to look into those S&W revolvers."

I do want to collect a few very special pieces, but I am as proud as can be with these newer, IL, MIM created guns. They group tight, look fab, and shoot easy. :D

Luv them all,

Rachel
