Best S&W

You may want to reconsider the rear sight issue. I went for decades with a fixed sight aversion. When I became interested in 5 screw guns, I came across an M&P that spoke to me.
First time I took it out to shoot, I was stunned at how well I shot it. The fixed sight showed me no disadvantage at all.

Not sure what a M&P is.....help me out there if you would. Is that a Model 10? Keener

Welcome to the FORUM! The Model 15 in 2" is on my want list, and would make a good choice. From what I understand they shoot quite accurately for what they are. My guns are shooters. If guns are kept in good condition they will appreciate in value. (some more than others) I have no guns that I will not shoot. Did it before with 0 satisfaction. Good luck on your hunt! Bob

. . .at least a "K" frame, has a rear adjustable sight, at least a .38 caliber, and comes in a snub nose version. . . .

It's clear to me :D that you need a Model 29 44 Mag, 3" round butt. Or perhaps you could "settle" for a Model 24 44 Special, 3" round butt.

I have both and nooooo..... they aren't for sale. :p

In the photo above, top to bottom:

2" model 36 J frame, 2.5" model 19, 2.5" model 66 (both K frames), and an L frame 2.5" model 686.

No opinion for what you are seeking, except you may want to narrow down your criteria - perhaps with a range trip with revolver-owning friends.

You guys amuse me. He has a snub 66 for several years and it is too heavy. So, you recommend 27 & 29.....,

Keener, look at a model 60, 3", with adjustable sights. It may meet your wishes. Nothing wrong with fixed sights on a carry gun.

Jack

Hello Mr. Keener, welcome. Did you state exactly the purpose of this gun?
1. safe queen/collectible/investment?
2. shooter/range gun?
3. self defense/home?
The major concensus is 19/66 2.5" or 4". They are both a nice, neat little package. Condition and price run the full spectrum. Good hunting. Best.

If you want adjustable sights and K frame and shoot both 38/357 and 2 1/2 snub I suggest either mod 19-4 (or earlier) or 66-1. There are other fine models but either of these two is a good start.

I have a 66-2 that is to heavy and don't need the 357 really. I don't need to shoot through buildings and cars, just people. I am thinking that the Mod 15, 2" might be very nice or a snubby M&P with a fixed rear sight. I will get the 66-2 sold and go from there. Thank you all for your input, it was appreciated and a good lesson for me. Keener

How bout I buy the square butt?? U've probably had it long enough.:) Keener

I am a big fan of the Model 19.

If no one has answered your question yet, the M&P everyone is referring to is the Military & Police. It was what the model 10 was called before they started using model designations. If weight is an issue to carry, but recoil isn't an issue for you, I would suggest a J frame. Many ideas there from lightweight aluminum frames ( models 442/642 ) to full steel frames ( models 60/640 ). A 642 usually travels with me on my daily outings...

If you already have a model 66 in 2", any others won't be too much lighter in a K frame unless you do go the airweight route with the model 12.

depends on the situation. If you out target shooting and want a good balance a N Frame is hard to beat.. especially at 6 in.

As you can see.. its a favorite of mine. Model 25-3 / 27-2 / 29-2 respectfully

If you want a all purpose a model 686 is a great choice.
