Hi all,

Does anyone have a recommended saw blade or dremel blade to remove the shipping protector at the open end of a 15-22 bolt guide? (see image attached)

I'm concerned about making the cut too coarse or leaving too much on the end and causing issues with too long a guide.

Thanks,

It looks like the smaller plastic connectors are designed to be cut/separated with simple tools like scissors or diagonal wire cutters right at the ends of the heavier guide rods. Step away from the Dremel it should not be required. If you are worried about a slightly ragged edge, a fingernail emery board or a piece of sandpaper should round/smooth off the edges nicely.

Speaking of sandpaper and emery boards, one if the best shop tips I’ve received in recent years was when someone pointed me to “professional”-grade emery boards. More substantial than the emery boards our moms used to carry in their purses, these things are as handy as a pocket on a shirt. I always have a few within easy reach of my workbench.

Why would the factory put something like that on there in the first place?
Isn’t that overkill?

Yes it is most times!

You bought any new tools in the plastic blister packs at the big box stores? To get into some of those is akin to breaking into a bank vault. They just do not go a bit overboard they design such packing to give your best curse words a good long work out.

It's metal all the way down sadly. It doens't flex at all with pliers, hence needing a blade :)

I'd never heard of those before, but have just ordered some - thanks!
