Best Values in High Quality Revolvers

Walked into my lgs yesterday and saw 2 revolvers. Both M&P 38spl. Both $179.
-The blued one was 20s era with the one line address, 5 screw, s# on the hammer hump. 6 inch barrel, grips from the 60s or 70s. Mechanically tight. Bluing worn off in some spots which was kinda odd. Rear sight "gutter" had no bluing, under the trigger guard had a finger tip size circle of missing bluing, butt where the S# is and finger tip size circles on some of the cylinder. Like I said, kinda odd. Everything else was deep blue...almost black. Definitely a shooter

- Second one, same price. 50s era with 4 inch barrel and nickel. Couldn't say if it was original nickel or re done but there was no flaking however the case hardening was missing from the hammer and trigger. Wearing Hogue or Pachmar grips

s+w model 66-3

Hi, I have a s+w model 66-3 s/n bpr9482, ss, 3" barrel. Any idea of age and value ? Condition is 95%

I have connections with a pawn shop in the hood. Revolvers don't sell well in that neighborhood. Nine or nothing!

In the last two years I have bought a minty C prefix pre 10 2" for $140 and several J frames from $140 to 170, add tax to all. They are a better investment than anything at the bank, even the model 37 parts gun.

Good Buy and Catch up

After seeing the post on over priced revolvers, I thought a thread that talks about high quality revolvers that can be had at very inexpensive prices. Call them good buys or under valued, but these high quality revolvers are great buys.

The best values or most under valued handguns I can think of are (1) S&W M&P Pre-Model 10 in 5 inch, (2 )S&W Model 10 in 4 inch, (3) Ruger Service Six in 4 inch. All these quality revolvers can be had for under $400, and on occasion for under $350. (4) Even the more desirable Security Six can be had for $500 or less. If you don't need them to be in the best of cosmetic condition, you might even get one for a little less. These are all three high quality revolvers that will be excellent home defense weapons. Even a S&W model 64 in 4 inch barrel can be had for $400 or less if you shop and are not too particular about cosmetics. If you will take a double action only police trade in you can save even more on these.

I am certain there are others out there that are excellent values as well.

I'm a sucker for a good priced revolver, and often have a hard time passing up quality revolvers under $400. In the past few years I have picked up a 64-2 2", 37, 10-5 6", 49, Ruger New Vaquero, and a Dan Wesson Model 22 6" all for under $350 each. .
