Best Way to Carry More Rounds for CCW??

OK. You guys convinced me. I'm going to stoke both my speed strips with 38 Special ammo, and keep one in a pocket and one in the car. But I'm not going out and buying a Glock. I'm not going to AIWB a semi-auto and a spare mag. It's just too intrusive for my lifestyle/carry style and where I live it ain't that dangerous.
I was carrying a speed strip in a cargo pocket but it kept going through the wash.

My gun is like my pocketknife. It's always there if I need it, but if I don't need it I forget it's there and that's how I want it to be.

My thinking exactly. There should be a like plus?

73,
Rick

You have already decided to carry the 65, so no sense in suggesting a wonder nine, but I do agree that a speed strip in the pocket makes sense. Most shootings between civilians are short fast and deadly. I have not yet seen an example where a reload made a difference. I'm a revolver guy but carry a CZ 75 compact. These days an active shooter in church or multiple assailants is getting to be more common. I don't carry a spare mag.

It depends on how I'm dressed. If carrying a revolver and no jacket. I carry a speed strip in my pants pocket. If I am wearing a jacket, speed loader or two in jacket pocket(s).

Best way to carry more EDC ammo, is to carry it in the gun. So ditch the revolver, and get something like a G19 or M&P9c.

My G19 carries three times the load that the j frame has. Thugs nowadays tend to travel in packs, and there's always the possibility of an active shooter.

Your little revolver will run dry in seconds, and while you're fumbling with a "speed" loader or "speed" straps, you'll get killed.

Whereas my G19 will be laying down a steady stream of fire, with 17 more in the spare mag.

It's 2021. Let's arm ourselves for the times.

NOT being in such areas is your best plan. I avoid cities and such places like the plague.

I am not going to argue with anyone's idea of self defense. However I will say that the more you try to carry the less likely it is that you'll have it with you. If it takes too long to strap everything on you are less likely to have it with you at all times. Also, the more you carry the more you'll find out that you have to "dress for the gun". I have talked with a lot of concealed carry guys where I live. More often than not, the guys who carry the most stuff or the largest handgun tend not to have it on them. Usually because they don't have the right jacket on or something. The very, very, best concealed carry is the one that's so easy to carry, you'll always have it with you. Not many bad guys are going to wait while you run home or go dig under the seat of the car.

Spot on. I have many options for carry (G26,G19,G17,G20,1911,629,686,65,etc etc etc) but my 638 with the Barami hip grip is what goes with me 90% of the time. I don't put on a Superman Cape when I walk out of my house and I don't consider myself a crime fighting auxiliary policeman just because I'm carrying. Strictly for last ditch defense is the philosophy of use for me. I would have to have failed at several things like situational awareness and observation to need more. If I get ambushed by three Sasquatches with Phase Plasma Rifles in the 40 watt range, then please remember I went down fighting.

Speed strips are your friend, since the speedloader is hard to hide. (unless you are wearing a jacket) I mean, they are the same diameter as the cylinder after all. My best advice if you are going to carry a revolver, either a J or a K frame is load five (or four) and get back in the fight. That last round is the hardest to load under stress...and five more in your 65 with the 6 you already shot is probably enough. And much faster than loading that second 6.

problem solved

this should take care of 99.9% scenarios. hides real well under a hefty size Hawaiian shirt.

I'd rather not have to carry a pouch on my belt, but I would if it's the best and easiest way to reload 6 rounds into my m65.

What's your thoughts?

Thanks.

Without going into scenario specific exercises, just generally answering to your questions; I'd suggest to carry t least one speed strip in one of your pockets.

Depending on the weather and what you wear, you can also put another speed strip or even speed loader in a different pocket.

If you wear a long coat and don't mind the pouch on your belt, then by all means go for it.

Is your spare ammo enough? This is something we can't answer, because sometimes it takes zero rounds and sometimes it takes 160 or more... so take as many as you feel comfortable with.

For reference; I always carry one spare magazine when I leave the house, period. If we go overlanding/traveling I'll have more of course.

I hope this helps.

When I'm carrying the gun when I'm not carrying... ;-)
...my 340 PD, speedstrip in the front pocket and two speedloaders in a bag I pack around with me in that situation.
Most of the time I'm carrying my SIG 229 with one spare 18 round mag (9mm).

Gunfight rule number one is most important. Have a gun.
Whatever you choose and are comfortable with is appropriate for you.
No reload or one or multiples. New York, I don't care.
Practice, get real training and practice some more...

One problem with speed strips is they have a limited lifespan.

After a year or so the rubber dries out and becomes brittle and eventually breaks.

You tend to find a round missing and eventually I have had them crumble in my pocket and release all the rounds.

Not a problem as they are cheap and can easily be replaced.

Best to check then once in a while.

When I wore the badge in the 70's and 80's, a common expression was "We talk 45's, we shoot 9's, and we carry 38's". Carry what gives you comfort. For me it's been a M49 since the late 70's. I'm small framed so a speed loader in the strong-side front pocket and a speed strip in the watch pocket has never been an inconvenience.

Just my advice: find what you like, then carry the same gun, in the same holster, in the same place all the time. This includes at least one reload.

Here is the solution from the good folks at ProMag, a 30-round drum magazine for your Shield. If you have a SIG P365, you can get a 50-rounder. So easy to carry concealed, and it's guaranteed to kind of work!

Having a dependable, trained, straight-shooting buddy with you is another good way...Even better if you use the same caliber ammo in case one or the other can't return fire and went down nearby...:o...Ben

To answer the OP's question, I use Zeta 6 J-Clips when carrying my J. That said, if you have to reload, it's no longer self-defense/personal protection, it's a fire fight. If that's the case, you're in deep excrement, no matter what you're packing.
