What are your thoughts for best weapons to defend against a home invasion?

Please consider lethal and non-lethal devices. Also, consider where you are living and your physical abilities.

During daytime hours, I like my EDC (S&W 3953) handy for that sudden surprise when the door is kicked in. I also like to have bear spray handy.

At night, I like my S&W Governor loaded with .410 00 and my 3953. I also use Master Lock security bars on the MBR doors to give me time to call the police, get my wife in to the MBA armed with a Walther PPS9, and grab my 2100 lumens mini flash light.

How about you?

Note to self: Don't break into URIT's house, day or night.

I have a 686+ in the nightstand. I don't usually carry around the house during the day, but I do have a Sig P229 stashed in a hidden location (it's almost impossible to find if you are not searching for it, and even then it would be difficult to uncover) that is easily accessible.

Aside from always keeping doors locked up at night, I’ve kept a Glock 21 in my nightstand for the better part of 20 years and an 870 Police Mag in the closet for even longer. HD options are as varied as ccw options, everybody’s situation and preferences are different.

A good alarm system.

On my nightstand I keep a Taurus Judge loaded with Winchester PDX1 Defender and .45 Colt rounds.

Standing in the corner, on the other side of my nightstand, I keep a Mossberg 500A, loaded with 8+1 #4 Buck minishells, 6 extra minishells in the side saddle, and 5 extra 2 3/4" slugs in the Tactaload.

A home defense weapon is really determined by things like personal preference, skill set, physical ability, layout of the home being protected, and maybe even local laws for those living in the socialist run states.

I won't be using a non-lethal weapon on anyone breaking into my house. Being a thug has it's own workplace hazards just like any other vocation.

What is the physical layout of your home ? In my case, 2 story row house style apartment, 1 entrance/exit-the front door. The inner door opens inwards, the front door opens outward. Single guy, live by myself-the cat doesn't make much noise. A 6" Ruger Stainless Security Six, a 6" S&W M-28, loaded with good 38s my bedside guns. At 10 feet, plenty accurate, the lighter loads allow for faster recovery, someone not intimately acquainted with my layout will quickly find himself stumbling over things. If was a house owner, a Dutch door, again an outer door that opened outwards.

I have a primary alarm system similar to what Sig220.45 has, times three!

They may not look like much but they alert to folks on the Highway 800 feet away. Their hearing is much better than Herself’s or mine.

The secondary alarm system is on the doors and windows.

The dogs are in the MBR with us and the door is closed. I will not go out to look for trouble, I much prefer to let it come to me.

Benelli M4 loaded with #1 buck. Chamber loaded safety on. Wife can handle semi-autos a lot better than pumps so I traded in the 590.

My side of the bed has a Sig 226 in .357 sig.

Her side is her Glock 19

Linus is our dog. Very friendly to people he knows but a damn good watch dog.

This! And That! One on night stand one at foot of bed. I pity the fool that gets between him and momma.

I’m not bear spraying anyone or anything inside my own house. When I do recoveries and when I was on the job, we have/had one hard and fast rule: If you spray him/her, they’re going in your vehicle . . .
