I have a Model 669, bought back in the 1980s. I want to get better sights on it. Does anyone know how much it would cost to get the current slide milled to accept modern sights, or is there another slide I could replace the current one with? Thanks!

Practically any of the 3rd gen, TDA (da/sa), 9mm, base model (non value line or TSW) slides will probably fit and operate on your model 669.

Closest to yours in design and desirability, would be a later, Novak sighted 6906 slide.

I don't know how much it would cost to have your 669 slide front sight milled off and new dovetail milled for a replaceable sight and to have your rear dovetail remilled for a Novak sight, plus the cost of the sights and installation, but it would probably be more than the price of a used slide ($150.00 or less).

You would also be permanently altering your original 669 slide and possibly devaluing your pistol.

Were it me, I would go with the 6906 slide.

And yes, I have installed a 6906 slide (and others) on my 669.

Hope this helps.

Welcome to the S&W Forums. The slide swap idea has been posted, but there are potential problems with that idea. The rear of the 469/669 slides and frames are more rounded than those of the full size pistols. The same goes for early production (hooked trigger guard) 3rd gen 6904/6906 pistols. When S&W switched to the Novak style rear sight, they also deleted the more rounded profile at the rear of the slide and frame on the compact pistols. Late in the production run of the 3rd generation pistols, S&W changed the barrel hood from the narrow style to a wider hood, so a late 6904/6906 slide will require a matching barrel.
