Better Than a Rock.?

Shortly Im leaving on a trip to visit a lady friend of mine in Florida....to say the least...she doesnt care for firearms....I normally carry a S&W Model 36...with Hollow points...usually in a high rise holster on my right hip...and wear a loose shirt over it....just got to thinking about instead putting my Beretta Model 950....25 Caliber.....with Hollow Points ...in holster in my boot.....guy at ammo store when i asked about hollow points for the .25...laughed and said a .25 is better than a rock.....he wasnt much of a fan of them.....really dont like to go out without something less than a .38 with hollow points....just wonder about anyones opinion on the Beretta .25......opinions and advice are appreciated......Gerhard

I agree it is better than a rock!!

But seriously, if she doesn't want you to carry I would politely explain that it's her life you might be saving and you are going to carry and she should accept you for who you are.

You stated "to say the least...she doesnt care for firearms", my opinion is, lose that lady.
It may sound harsh but the way I was raised, was if someone didn't like you just the way you are, they aren't worth passing time with.
If she doesn't care about your personal safety, what else doesn't she care about?
You can find better, keep looking.
 
Your call, IMO if a woman doesn't trust me to be armed, why does she trust me to be alone w. her in her house?

Now, w. that said, you don't want a HP in a 25, you need all the penetration you can get... and you might be better off w. a NAA mini in your boot in 22 mag...

Why not carry the Model 36 in your boot?
A IWB holster with the holster inside the boot and the clip over the boot top.
You might also consider finding a GF that likes guns.

Being a former LEO, I've seen some real world results with the 25 and with rocks. In most situations, I would feel more confident using the rock. Take your 36.
 
I'd use FMJs. Though Speer does make a 35 grain Gold Dot for the .25 ACP (I have a box that I was given), I'd be afraid that the bullets might actually expand with a .25 ACP, resulting in a loss of penetration.

Anyway, a J frame isn't exactly a large and unwieldly gun. It can be easily pocketed. Tropical weight sport coats make carrying even larger guns less of a problem.

I generally always just did what I wanted regarding carrying a gun or guns with misc and varied women. If you met her online, then definitely carry a gun...

She's not going to be happy with any gun you carry, so carry the one you feel most comfortable with. She'll either get over it or not.

But in gerhard's case I think he's doesn't have the same same relationship with the POTUS as he has, or hopes to have, with his FL friend.

carry both, a rock and the .25. after you piss him off from 8 rounds from the .25 then hit him with the rock to put him out of commission
 
Thanks Everyone........The Vote is in..!!...S&W Model .36 with HP...FBI Hi-Rise Holster on right hip...just dont think my pockets would carry that many rocks along with the .25....Besides....would hate to pull that .25 out...bang away 8 rounds ...have someone look at me and say..."What the hell was that.?".....Besides the Model .36 is a bit more intimidating....and can be seen more easily..!!..Again..thanks for the input........Gerhard...
 
I have a Berreta 950 Jetfire in .25 also. It is by no means a primary carry weapon (.40 is my primary carry caliber) but a good BUG and easily conceals just about anywhere.

I call it a "get away" gun.. i.e. 8 rounds into the bad guy to slow him down so I can get away and live. Unless shot placement is near perfect, you probably won't nutralize the threat immediately, but it will certainly slow down an attacker/mugger. Certainly not something I would want to rely on against a gang-banger with a Glock in his hand, but the bang will make him think twice about pursuing while I attempt to seek cover and make tracks...

I shoot better than I pitch, so I agree the 950 is better than a rock... The 950 is a tiny little thing, but surprisingly accurate for its size. I wouldn't stake my life on it as my daily/primary sidearm, but it is better than nothing and very hard to detect...
 
Better than a rock?...Better than a sharp stick?...Better than your fingernails?....Why would that be reassuring?.....Would you jump out of an airplane with an umbrella?.....It's closer to a parachute than your bare hands.
 
Not for nothing, a Model 36 is cute enough that she might just want to go with you to "practice" at a local range and try it for herself with wadcutters. You might have a convert on your hands. :)
 
Why not simply tell her you carry, if she asks? If she doesn't ask, what she doesn't know may save her life.

Seriously, that's too important an issue to be hiding from a potential lady friend. If you aren't doing anything illegal, you have nothing to hide.
 
While not my first choice, I have on occassion carried a .25 auto. The important thing is that you have to change tactics. These things are intended as a last resort at bad breath distances. Forget center mass. Stick the gun right in the BG's face and pull the trigger. Several times! While he's dazed, confused and wondering where the blood is coming from, you RUN LIKE HELL!
The BG will probably live. But then, so will you.
