I just purchased a new bodyguard 380, I like everything about this gun except the magazine release button. The magazine release button seems to sensitive, if you barely touch the mag release button the magazine pops out. I don't like it, seems like it should have a stronger spring on the mag release button. Any one else notice this on theirs?

No ,my magazine release works just fine, never really noticed it being any different than any other gun I have.

Not on mine. Not too sensitive. Just right. Sounds like you may need to get that fixed.

I noticed it. I have a pocket holster and the slightest pressure on the release causes the mag to pop out. Is there a fix for this? It would be embarrassing to get off one round in the chamber and have your magazine fall onto the ground.

Wife has one she carries in her purse, mag constantly releases. Have talked with other owners same issue.

Hi new to this site. I see others have a concern about the touchy magazine release button on the bodyguard 380. I am having the same issue. Gun is still new to me . Have only shot about 200 rounds through it. Not sure if it's just me getting use to the gun or if something might be wrong with the button. Seems very loose to me. I carry it in my purse and the mag is fine, does not release. Husband can shoot it with no issue, but when I shoot it the mag pops out. Hoping more practice with it will do the trick. Love the gun! But have to agree with zbird and ddschiavo.

Sounds like your thumb is hitting the button while firing. Adjust your grip so the thumb is not pressing on the mag release. I think it's a fine pistol too. Good shooting.

that's exactly what i have been trying to do :o..hopefully more practice will do the trick!!

Check out a few YouTube videos of people shooting the tiny guns like the BG380, Kahr380, DB380, Keltec P3AT, etc. The 'thumbs forward' grip works great. Feels funny at first, but it works. Good luck, you'll get it.

Bodyguard problems

I purchased my Bodyguard about 6 months ago. I have had a few problems with it like the laser buttons. The worst problem has been with the magazine release. I've put about 300 rounds through it and all of a sudden the mag starts dropping out. I checked to make sure I was not the cause. When I looked down the mag well I could see excessive wear on the mag release. The magazines will no longer stay in the well. I contacted S&W and they responded quickly (can't fault customer service). I have shipped the gun back, per their instructions. Will try to keep you informed. Anybody else have a problem with mag mechanism? I still like the gun, it does everything I need.

My issue with mag release is it seems to protrude in the mag wel causing the mag to not smoothly insert. If you just touch it softly while inserting mag it's fine. Afraid if I keep forcing it in without pressing mag release when inserting a mag it will wear out the piece and cause it to do like you say and just fall out. Anyone else notice this? If so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Bought new one Friday, fired it today for first time. I had the same problem. When trying to insert magazine, I had to press magazine release button to fully insert it. Guess I'll be calling Customer Service tomorrow.

Magazine requires "slap" to insert in 380.

Has anyone confirmed with S&W that this is normal? I checked 3 at two different stores. All had the same magazine issue.

I had the magazine coming loose in my pocket. The mag release button sticks up too high. I trimmed it down with a razor blade about a year ago, and haven't had an issue since.

Yes, it's normal. And it's kinda tricky on such a small gun; your hand on the grip is in the way.

After you disassembled and lubed everything when you put the takedown lever back in did you make sure the spring was under the takedown pin. I've heard of some putting it together on the top which is incorrect. There is a tube video that shows the spring and disassembly and reassembly. Just do a youtube search for "S&W Bodyguard 380 Disassembly & Reassembly"

Yes

Yes this is normal. So are broken firing pins, laser screws that back out, metal injected barrels, etc.
