bg380 sight problem

finally had a chance to fire my new bodyguard .380 bug. put 40 rds. of wwb and 10rds. of corbon 90g through it without a hitch. really want to like this punch and pull little guy.

two concerns stood right out:

1) it shoots two 1/2 foot low at 20 ft. poa was dead center horizontal. two 1/2 foot low vertical. the same with both cartridge types. yes the sights were aligned properly with a good solid grip. no this is not my only da type pistol.

I field stripped and cleaned the bore and internals before the range trip. and again stripped it at the bench to make sure everything looked to fit in the proper positions. no dings on the barrel crown either.

it did put forth a nice tight little grouping. I did not try the lazer do to the outdoor daylight. the factory did set the poa even to the fixed sights.

2) this little guy is snappy. these corbon's have some good pop to them. so...after a few rounds it feels like a firecracker went off on your trigger finger. now I couldn't tell if it was the trigger or the front of the trigger guard that was rapping my finger, but OUCH!
I've never incountered a case of trigger slap, but that's how i'd explain it.

I've done abit of surfing and came up with little info. for these two concerns. just wondering if anyone has came across something just short of boxing it back to S&W.

The good thing is that your pistol seems relatively reliable (not always the case with these pistols).

I suggest you stick to the less expensive ammo: paying more for ammo doesn't make a 380 anything except an expensive pistol to shoot.

You might try altering your sight picture.

I wouldn't invest more money in your inexpensive pistol fussing with new sights.

The $ would be better spent on a lesson with a good instructor who may spot some correctable problems with grip, trigger control and/or sight picture that you don't recognize.

Shooting 2 feet low at 20 feet is a big problem in a sd weapon.

Ultimately, you can't use what you have for it's intended purpose with any confidence.

You are in the untenable position of having a marginal calibre pistol which you can't reliably do much more with than annoy an assailant.

You'd do better with a 22 revolver such as a kit gun (m34). You can reliably hit the bad guy in the tear duct with one of those.

You'd be dollars ahead trading it for a better handgun.

You'd also have something useful for your purpose.

Just my opinion, of course.

RPG, thanks for the reply. I will say there is merit to most of your statements. I agree that no bullet or sight change will correct this piece as it's an obvious machining error. it's now boxed and on it's way back to the birthplace for some "tuning".

Sorry that you're having problems with your BG380, S&W will make it right. Right out of the box mine (S/N EBN2xxx) was and still is right on the money iron and laser. I've run hundreds of rounds down range and not one single malfunction, can't say that about my other pistols. I've shot all the 380s in this class and it's the best IMHO. Hang in there and you'll happy in the end.

Glad you're getting it back to S&W. I hope they fix it and get it back to you promptly.
