BHP back from Novaks

I sent my Browning Hi Power to Novaks for some work and it's back! Here are some before and after photos.

Well, I see they got rid of the ambi-safety (a good thing, in my opinion) and put the sights on. Did they refinish the pistol as well? The finish in the "after" shots looks smoother. Your pistol's from about '83, right? What is that stamp that part of it says "N.Y.C."? Did they furnish the grip panels as well? The pistol looks great...not overdone like a lot of custom pistols. What all did they do to the pistol, and what was the turnaround time?

I love those old Hi-Powers. This one should last you the rest of your life.

Oh man what a beauty. Looks great! Nice choice on the Nills as well.

Novak Hi Power

Congrat's.....money well spent....I am a big fan of the HP and have shot them for decades.....I bought two more Hp's a couple months ago...Mk II & Mk III .....one of these guns is ear marked to go to Novaks for the same treatment as yours...and the other to cylinder & slide.....back in the day, a good friend of mine who was with the HRT had a Hi Pwr that supposedly Novak's had turned out....it was a wonderful piece of ordnance.....he loved that pistol and had shot a truck load of ammo thru it.....hope you plan on shooting that HP, that is what they were born and bred for....enjoy...

Glad you're happy. I sent a new 5906 to them in the '80's for a trigger job. Came back the same and a full mag .wouldnt eject as it did before. Not impressed then, haven't been since, and they're in my home state. I opened the mag well with a hammer handle, ok since. Professionals, not.

My Ferrari mechanic had the same problem with my Yugo...

I believe you are right on the year. The pistol is stamped AE CO. NYC, maybe that was the importer? Not sure. As for the list of what Novak did, I had them do a trigger job, remove the magazine disconnect, mill the slide and fit the novak sights, install a Novak extended strong side safety, and bead blast and refinish the entire pistol. They changed out the sear spring, recoil spring and recoil spring guide as well because it needed it. I also put on Karl Nill grips.

Turn around time was 2 weeks.

Loc N Load, I have shot it and it ran flawlessly! It is one sweet shooter! Send yours to Novak, you won't be disappointed.

FloridaFlier- I did not measure the trigger before and after, but I did shoot it before and after and regardless of what the numbers are, it's much sweeter to shoot now. The trigger was a little gritty before, it's much crisper now!

That was 25-30 rounds at 10 & 15 yards.

My group opened up quite a bit at 25 yards, but that was me, not the gun. I don't really shoot out to 25 yards that much.
