I have only owned S&W revolvers, never a semi-auto. I almost pulled the plug on a 915 about fifteen years ago, but for some reason I did not. Well today I ordered one of these. From the research I did, S&W is the best 1911 available new in MA.

One question, what brand of magazine ships with them? If it's not a Wilson or CMC, I need to go shopping.

Now you've gone and done it! Better put another shelf in the safe for all the bottom feeders you'll be adding.;)

The mags my Smith's came with have been great but I'm not recalling who makes them for Smith...someone will come along with that info. No need to go shopping unless it's just for extras. I like the followers without the "tongue" that my older 1911 came with better so I bought two from Smith for the E gun...but as I said...they all work fine. I'd post a pic of the difference but my son-in-law took the "tongued" mags for his Ruger.

Congrats on the great gun...be sure to post when it arrives.:)

Picked it up today. Hope to get to the range tomorrow night or on the weekend. Mags feel like they're made out of aluminum foil. Going to get some 47D from Brownells.

The two mags that came with my TA haver never gave me any problems.

I've heard feast or famine with the factory mags, either no problems or nothing but problems. I'll run them at the range, but I won't carry them.

I hope you enjoy yours as much as I have mine. I don't know the answer about the mags but S&W uses a 18lb recoil spring in the TA. I called them to find out when I changed mine out. Good luck.

Ran a few mags worth tonight after work. Used the two factory mags and one Wilson 47. Shot Speer Lawman 230gr TMJ and 185gr SWC handloads.

In a limited amount of rounds, the factory mags functioned without issue, but with a couple quirks.
First, loading 8, chambering one, then loading one more, seating the magazine needed a hard slam to lock. That was not an issue with the 7 round Wilson.
Second, the SWC would not load into the mag. They are the same OAL as the factory rounds, and they load fine in the Wilson without a hint of resistance. I haven't miced the size of the mag, but to the naked eye they look a touch smaller than the Wilsons.

Gun shoots like a champ, but as I've heard of others, ejects right to the top of my head. Racking the slide by hand, the heavy spring is noticeable. I need a free weekend afternoon to run a few hundred rounds through to get a good read on things, but for now I like it.

Well, I decided to go all in on this. Brought it to JoJos and had them replace all the MIM parts and polish it up. I guess I made the right choice. It shot pretty well out of the box, but this is ridiculous. This was the first 8 round magazine, off hand, at 25'. Trigger is like butter.
