Big problem with M&P9 Spec Ops

Anyone else experience this problem?

I have a 3-week old M&P9 Spec Ops - a 4.75" barrel in a 4" slide/frame. Here's my problem - after rapid firing (1 second between shots) a couple clips, the pistol will heat up a bit and the slide will lock in the closed position. Worse, this is with a live round in the chamber - and yet the hammer is not reset, so you can't even fire the "jammed" round, nor can you open the slide to eject the round. When I say locked up, I mean that a full sized 230-pound man cannot pull the slide back, period. This has happened four different times. In order to get the slide open, I have found that setting it down and letting it cool allows me to open it normally. It is not a situation of slowly being able to grind it open, it's either opened or locked shut and can't be opened. I've torn it down twice and cleaned and oiled it, and still the problem goes on. Of course the time I took it back to the dealer and let him look at it, he tore it down, oiled it, and then shot 150 rounds through it with no jamming. So now I shoot two 17 round clips through it, and one of the last rounds in the second clip locks it shut again, same problem. The RSO has banned my gun from the range and labeled it unsafe.

I called S&W and they are sending me a call tag for my pistol. The guy on the Customer Service line thought it was a weird problem too!

Ammo used was Remington UMC.

sounds to me like something is to tight in that gun, probably the fit between the chamber and the slide. If it were my gun I would be trying to see if I could push down on the chamber to get it to unlock from the slide, might take a smack from something to do it if that is the problem though.

The factory will take care of it.

Now that "RSO" (I presume that means Range Safety Officer) must be bucking for an opening with the BATFE. What a jack a. . . -oh sorry started to say a bad word, so I will say "what a jack booted thug" instead.

Just because the "RSO" is obviously unqualified to handle the situation does not mean the pistol is unsafe.

Keep the damned thing pointed down range until it cools off.

It is obviously not right and you should send it back, but it is not unsafe.

You know, if that happened in the real world, all you'd have to do is dunk it in water -- and you'd be ready to go again -- Voila and Presto....

Seriously, send it back. The tolerances are clearly too tight somewhere -- and the heat from expansion is pressing against something crucial...

The RSO is a silly goose who forgot to fly south...

If the pistol locks up and won't fire, what's he afraid of -- the gun going to full-auto...

Actually, you might have a proto-type for a new Sarah Brady gun-lock...

The trouble with your gun is it's TOO safe, not unsafe....

I was a little rough on the RSO...

Any gun with a live round in the chamber could be unsafe...

He's probably right to ensure that you get the gun fixed...(And he's giving you incentive to do it quickly...)

Outrider you were probably closer to right with your first comments. As we all know, you give some people a little power and control and they feel a need to rewrite rules and fix what isn't broken. Sorry about your spec-ops gun, they look kinda neat with the flashy writing on the side and barrel threads. I'm sure S&W will fix it so the RSO can safely allow it on "his" range. God I wish I owned my own land to shoot on.
