A fun day afield turns into a great dinner. Quail wrapped in bacon and baked, lightly sauteed and baked. Wild rice, brussel sprouts, mushrooms, and gravy(out of pic). Mmmmmmmm! Rue did a fine job again. Great nose, her only fault is the last 5' of retrieve, she just won't bring it closer to you, lol. I can live with that :)

She's a very talented dog to be able to flip that ear back for pinpoint accuracy of were the bird hit the ground. LOL! Good looking dog too, not to mention the way the other photo has my mouth watering!

you.....wrapped...quail...in...bacon????

Pretty standard thing down South. Besides, we Southerners have to get our Minimum Daily Requirement of artery-hardening food.

That sure looks good, other than the brussel sprouts.
Nice looking dog as well.

Man does that bring back memories of great quail hunts, and yes bacon is almost required to keep from getting lynched. Beautiful dog too.

Rue appears to be, looking just like my first GSP -- it's ALL in the training. Giving up a bit of food is not a natural act for a dog. :) of me for that matter. :D

I just wish we still had that many quail left around here. The coyote's and raccoons destroy the eggs and kill off the quail.

I thought EVERYBODY loved Bacon? :) I used to hate Brussel Sprouts, but love them now. These were released birds, we can HUNT wild quail, but if we want to SHOOT quail, we have to put them out. Put out 20 birds that morning and came home with 15 late that afternoon.
