1-1963 or 1964
2-1960
3-1984

That's what the Catalog says

Inverness, I highly recommend buying the Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson by Jim Supica and Richard Nahas if you are interested in Smith and Wessons at all. It has all the information you seek and much, much more.

For your Cs, these are manufacturing dates, not shipping dates which could be somewhat later.

C429,741 – C474,148…….1960
C474,149 – C622,699…….1961 – 62
C622,700 – C810,532…….1963 – 65

Wow, thank you both very much!
I didn't expect the model 12's to be quite that old.
I guess now I should check them over as I've heard they can develop frame cracks. Is there anything else i should know?

I have been looking at gunshops and shows etc. for a copy of the "Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson" but haven't found one yet. I reckon I'll have to get one on the internet somewhere soon. This forum has been really good to me in the meantime, so thanks again.

It's readily available on Amazon.

There are other S&W books that are useful to own. You might see if your Australian store also has "History of Smith & Wesson" by Roy G. Jenks. It contains a lot of good information on earlier (pre-mid 1980s) S&Ws.
