The book says (pg. 257-258) that "Classic" and "Classic DX" 629-4's started in 1993 with -5's in 1997.

Nothing in the back of the specific to the "CAH" prefix. Prefix "CAM" started in Jan. of 1996.

Call Smith and Wesson. I called for my three revolvers and S&W gave me the the manufactures date for each. The manufactures date is the date the weapon left the factory. The date they gave me included the month, day and year. For example, my newly purchase 629-6, S/N CSNXXXX, left the factory on 3/24/2012.

I did not know that they provided this service. Thanks!

I called S&W and the gentleman was very nice in giving me the dates for my guns. I appreciated it and told him so.
