James Emerson Hough will be celebrating his 93rd birthday on July 25, 2023. James was a Combat Engineer in the US Army. While serving in Korea during the war, the jeep he was riding in hit a landmine and killed the other three occupants. James was severely wounded and spent almost a year in the hospital. He was honorably discharged as a disabled veteran.

Recently James has moved into an assisted living facility and in order to boost his spirit, we thought it would be nice to have folks send him birthday cards.

The birthday cards can be mailed to:

James Hough
c/o Ripley Crossing
1200 Whitlatch Way
Milan, IN 47031

Thank you in advance and God bless.

I was late getting away from the house today. By the time I made it to the post office I'd missed the 1:30 pick-up but in plenty of time to make the 4:30.

It is my hope that Mr. Hough's mail box is full to over flowing with cards I have been thinking about him since I first saw the post about his birthday. I hope he gets a kick out of this.

acco40, Thank you for posting up about this great American hero. it put a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye. It meant so much to me to be able to honor Mr. Hough and wish him happy birthday.

On Tuesday, 7/25, we visited Jim to celebrate his 93rd Birthday. I asked Jim if he had gotten any Birthday cards and he said he has received over 60 cards from "...people I don't even know. I got cards from California, New York, and even overseas. How did they know it was my Birthday?" I told him that some very kind and wonderful folks just wanted to send them to you to thank you for your service to our great country.

Jim has been a member of the Sons of The American Revolution for many and in the picture below he is receiving an award for his contributions to the SAR and for his published works. Jim has written "Eighty-Nine Years and Still Evolving: Essays and Writings" and just published another book entitled "Finding Peace Of Mind and Keeping It: Essays and Writings" which will be available soon.

Jim is very excited that he will be moving to another wing of the assisted living facility that will contain some of his furniture from home including his favorite lounge chair. He is in good spirits and the facility he is at is quite pleasant.

For those of you familiar with the Korean War, Jim was at the Chosin Reservoir and later was severely wounded on December 28, 1950. He will tell you that the Chosin Reservoir is the coldest place on Earth!

My sincere thanks to all of you for making Jim's Birthday special!
