Today happens to be my birthday and as it happened, I picked up my new 351C from my local FFL.

This is a replacement for one that I sent in to the factory back in mid July. They sent an email just before the end of the month to tell me that the gun was unrepairable and would be replaced.

That was odd as the problem I sent it in for was two chambers that were tight and hard to eject shells from. Which in itself was odd as it was fine when I bought it used, but just appeared one day.

I figured that they would ream the chambers or maybe put in a new cylinder. Nope, new gun.

The delay was that they had to wait until the made a new batch to have one to send me.

When they notified me that they would be replacing the revolver, I asked if it was possible to get a no lock version even though my original was a lock version.

I wasn't sure that they'd do that, but they did.

I'm going to clean and lube it and then hope for a day that's warm enough to bring it to the range.

That's great news!

I have to wonder about something working fine then a problem suddenly appears. Perhaps something internal to the cyl/yoke went awry that caused the two chambers to be tight.

But the most amazing thing was they were able to honor your request for a no lock version. Your timing was probably just right...they were still in the transition period where no lock frames were still in production with the newer version machined for the lock. Most all their design changes have this transition period that we've seen time and again.

Enjoy your birthday, can't think of a better way to celebrate it!

Getting it replaced with a new one was a happy ending... getting a "no-lock" replacement is a Happy Birthday, Merry Christmas and a visit from the Tooth Fairy all at once! Congratulations.

An all around win! Yes, I was quite pleased. Far be it from me to look a gift revolver in the chamber, but I'm not sure why it wasn't repairable. It seemed like a simple fix, but what do I know? ;)

First off - Happy Birthday!

Today many manufacturers will just replace an item rather than employ qualified people to actually diagnose and repair an item (not just guns). In the long run they probably save money.

Remember, not only do they have to replace parts, but they need to fit them, test them and that might cost more than just pulling a new one off the line and replacing yours. I doubt there are really many qualified gunsmiths employed at gun company's any longer - mostly just parts assemblers. They probably save tons of money that way!

I hope you have better luck with this one!!

Happy birthday! I had to wait 9 months for my first 317 to be replaced as they had to wait to tool over . I do fully enjoy my 351pd especially with gold dot and hornaday critical defense, which obviously are now rare around here. Enjoy that present !
