I have a Blackberry curve that I use for my business. I have no idea how to back up my info on that phone. Also, I recorded the coolest thing (at least from my completely biased view) and I need to transfer the voice message file from my phone to my computer as well as convert it to a file type that anyone could listen to on their computer (I will post it here as soon as I can get it figured out).

So... anyone have any idea how I would do that?

Hi Parallel,
You can back up your BB using the Nlackberry Desktop Manager. This is the software on the CD that came with your BB. There Should be a blue icon on your desktop if you have installed this that says Desktop Manager. There should be a Backup and Restore icon in the software that will allow you to backup your BB.

The voicemail message is another story, you can't transfer a voicemail message to your computer. The voicemail message isn't actually on your phone, it's on a server at your carrier's facility. About the only thing you can do is record it and transfer the file to your computer. You could call your voicemail from a land line and use the voice recorder on the BB to record the message then transfer the file using the USB cable that came with your BB.

Hope this helps!

Cheers,
Sam

The file that I want to backup is a voice message file already, not a voice mail. From what I am hearing, Blackberry Desktop may be able to get the file into my computer, the thing that I need to be able to do after that is to convert the file (if needed) to an MP3 or Windows media type file. Thanks for the info... every little bit gets me closer.

Ah gotcha, that is relatively easy. You need to load the CD that came with the BB, The Desktop Manager. Once you do this you plug your BB into the computer using the USB cable that came with the BB. Once you do this your computer will detect a mass storage device similar to plugging in a USB thumb drive. Once you see this then hit the start button and click on my computer. you should see something similar to the following:

A Drive - Floppy
C Drive - Local Disk
D Drive - CDROM normally
E Drive - USB Mass Storage (Blackberry)

Double click on the E: drive and you should see a folder called Blackberry. Double click on this and a list of folders such as pictures, video, music, etc. The folder you are looking for is voicenotes. The file is located there, just click and drag the file to your desktop. This will copy it to your computer and then you can do what you want with it.

Cheers,
Sam
