I also hope the remake doesn't get made.
There are a small number of movies that have been done that should be left to stand on their own, and most remakes end up being "agenda" movies that ruin the artistic merits of the original.
The Day the Earth Stood Still is an example of where the remake was lousy compared to the original. Yes, the original actually was an "agenda" movie of it's day, but it's message was more in the background which let the sci-fi story come through much better.
There are other remakes that escape me right now, but I don't have many good feelings about them in general.
In short, the best way to ruin a great movie is to remake it, and Hollywood has done it's share of that.
