I was reconfiguring my new Blade Tech mag holder and they use a nut insert with flat sides. The problem I was having was that they used LocTite (or similar) when they assembled it and when I tried to disassemble it the inserts turned with the screws. Not a problem on the one insert that wasn't recessed, an 8mm open end wrench worked fine. The other inserts were recessed into a pocket, after trying to hold it with needlenose pliers which didn't work, I modified this socket to do the job. I took an old thin wall 1/4 drive, 6 point, 8mm socket and ground it so the 2 opposite flats remained. Worked like a champ. Thought I'd post it so that if anyone else runs into this on a Blade Tech holster or accessory they can easily make one of these.

Just out of curiosity, is this a new mag holder directly from Blade-Tech or from a distributor or someone who said it was new? Reason I ask is cause it sounds like the old screws/nuts they used to use. Everything recently I've gotten directly from Blade-Tech seems to use a nut that has a like a locking washer texture on the inside so it doesn't turn with the screw. Don't recall seeing any loc-tite or similar on them either.

Brand new from blade tech, the nut serts have the knurling on them but all of them were "Loctited". Once I broke them loose, they went back together with no problem. The OWB holster didn't have any thread locker on them but the instructions on the website recommended putting thread locker on the screws once the desired adjustments were made but the mag pouch had the loctite on them. I don't know about new or old style since all my Blade Tech stuff have the same nut serts.

Correction: My mag pouch T-nuts don't have a serration like my holster ones did (had to go check). The problem I was having was that I got the Tec Lock attachment with the TMMS quick change option. When I put it on my belt I realized that there was too much distance between the pouch and me per IDPA rules (3/4" and the TMMS version was about 5/4"). So instead of sending it back and getting another, I decided to remove the TMMS mechanism from the pouch. Apparently Blade Tech didn't intend for anyone to disassemble this pouch so they installed Loctite (it looks like red, but I can't imagine I would have gotten it apart if it was indeed the red loctite). After removal of the TMMS and reinstalling the Tec Lock, I'm well within the rules. Plus I've got a spare gadget to play around with on some undetermined future project. I've attached some pictures for clarity. The scars on the nuts are from my attempt to hold them with needlenose pliers:eek:(didn't work, prompting me to make the tool)
