Got a 2005, Trailblazer, LS, with about 110,000 miles on it. Couple of years back the odometer started not resetting.

I'd get up on a cold morning, start the car, go somewhere and the odometer would start out reading OK. The when you stop. I stays on the last speed, be that 25, 35, 55, etc. When you go through the traffic light it moves up accordingly. So it looks like you are going throught town at 70 when in reality it is only 35.

Once under the hood warms up sufficiently and you stop and start the engine several times it will slowly go back to normal and work fine until the next cold start in the morning.

Any Mechanics out there with ideas....other than the $600.00 the local Chevy dealer said to "Replace the Unit."

Thanks,

You're saying odometer but describing the speedometer. The speedometer part shows how fast you are going.

The odometer part on my Chevy went out, and I said "so what" when I found out about the Dealer exchange program. As long as the speed shows, I'm good. There is a block on the mileage declaration if I sell it that says "Odometer broken."

At least in OK, it's legal to get a used assembly out of a wrecked car as long as you document it and record the new starting mileage on the odometer.

I have a 04 Z71 Silverado and it was doing the samething.. They have a recall on those defective speedo's Mine was replaced just under 75,000 its got 95000 now. A buddy at work was saying how his was doing that and mine started about a month later.
ask to talk to the factory rep..

My 2000 started doing that and they replaced the speed sensor on the transmission for less than $100 parts and labor. Think the part was $39 or so. Might want to look into that first.

If you look under "Suburban speedo problems", you'll probably
find that problem listed for the '05 versions. Something to do with
a "stepper-motor". The problem doesn't go away. Dealers are familiar with it, and if they fix it, you're probably good for the life of the vehicle. TACC1

The POS 05 Colorado I had had the same sort of problems. It would also read 35mph when idleing in park! That truck spent more time in the shop than on the road.
