Simple question, hopefully. How do 15-22's like CCI Blazer? I know they are basically CCI with an aluminum casing. Not sure if that would have an effect on something or not.

In other news, I did make the hour or so trip to the indoor range to shoot my rifle. Sure went well, occasional misfires, duds, FTEs but not too bad. Shot off a 333 box of Winchesters. Can't wait for the weather to get warmer so I can go to the local range.

Their .22 ammo is not aluminum. Good stuff at a good price. I have yet to find any bulk ammo this rifle doesn't like.

A distinction without a cause, at least in this case.

I personally would say anything that is shipped in quantities greater than 100 is bulk; the CCI Blazer is a 500 round brick, but it contains 10 boxes of 50 rounds each. So, given my first statement, you could treat it as bulk (500 rounds) or not bulk (50 rounds per box).

Generally, bulk ammo is loose, not boxed. Blazers are certainly not considered 'match', and some would consider anything that isn't match to be bulk.

Its good ammo at a good price, regardless of whether you consider it bulk or not.

Bulk. As for how they work, I've put over 2,000 Blazers through my 15-22 in one sitting with no hiccups.

CCI makes a variety of 22lr ammunition, and for the most part, it would be characterized as 'bulk' ammo.

Your 15-22 will shoot almost any 22 long rifle (lr) ammunition. You can spend a lot on match ammo which will provide better 'groups', but since the 15-22 does not have what it considered a 'match barrel', most will purchase whatever they can that is reasonable in price.

Cabellas has CCI Blazer for $0.05 a round, which in our current circumstances, is good, if not great.

In short, I wouldn't worry about whether you are shooting 22lr that might be considered 'bulk' or 'not'. Your rifle won't know the difference (in most cases). The person next to you at the range won't care. Only your wallet will care.

The general recommendation is to try a bunch of different ammo. Buy a brick of CCI Blazer. Buy some Remington Thunderbolts. Buy some Winchester. Shoot them, and see which one your rifle likes best. It may like them all, it may prefer CCI over Thunderbolts (mine has failure to feeds occasionally with thunderbolts, for instance - so I save those for my bolt action, where it always goes 'bang').

The only caveat is stay away from ammo that says 'not for use in semi-autos'. These are generally 22lr rounds that are subsonic or do not provide enough recoil to reset the hammer/trigger, or don't bring the bolt back far enough to capture and load the next round.

Bottom line, get as much as you can for as little as you can.

All the Blazer 22 I have is brass cased.

My 15-22 eats it up.

Tried a box of Thunderbolts and while they performed OK, they badly leaded up the barrel. As in after 200 rounds I could not easily run a cleaning rod through it. Got some Blazer but have not tried them yet. Will be a great day when we can pick up some ammo of choice whenever we need it.

Don't bother check Cabela's for .22LR Blazer... they're already sold out.

I know finding ammo locally isn't easy, but ordering it really has become a non-issue if you're quick on the draw. Seems to be lots of options out there at good prices.

CCI's Blazer line for pistol ammunition has aluminum cases. Their Blazer Brass line is brass. Oddly, the .22 Blazer is also brass. I'm guessing that Bass Pro is just copying the description for the aluminum pistol rounds into the .22 description to save time (lazy). So don't worry about .22 Blazer. It's brass.

That is correct. The confusion comes in because CCI originally marketed the center-fire Blazer line as an "economy" line, especially for the non-reloader, with an AL case, rather than brass.

The Blazer centerfire line was eventually changed to brass cases. I guess the AL-cased ammo is still being made, but I haven't seen any in years.

Blazer .22s have always been brass cased.

How old is that site? Blazer .22s have never been aluminum cased; only a centerfire line.

It is the current BassPro listing for Blazer .22lr. BTW, is the 500 pack sold by Cabelas a bulk box, or is it a sleeve of 10/50 or 5/100? I have some empty 100-boxes with sliding lids to repackage if they are bulk. I like to keep they in the divided boxes.
