Yes, you read that right. I picked up my 3rd S&W 3rd Gen auto today. A S&W 4506 that is blued. The designation says 4506 and not 4505. When I went to purchase a new gun today that cought my eye and I really liked the feel. It came in a S&W M&P Case and had houge grips stock. Is this a custom, or a rare run of the 4506's? Looking for some info on this...thanks guys. I'll post photos soon.

I have seen a mid 2010 production 4566 with a blue finish on a Stainless steel frame. It looked to be a nice gun, but I don't collect 45's and they wanted a lot of money for it. I called S&W about it and they said it was a special order run for, I believe, Lew Horton. If the 4506 you found has a box label available, you can call S&W and give them the product code and get some information about them.

Sorry the photo is of such bad quality. I had to take the photo from my iPhone. I cant find my camera (that cant be good).

Well here is a really crappy quality pic of the gun.

Odd...also not that that grey square area by the trigger guard isnt present on the gun itself...must be from the glare or something.

My guess since it is stamped 4506 would be that it is a stainless steel gun that was finished with Melonite. That's what they use on the M&P slides and barrels to give them the matte black finish. I have also seen 40 and 59 series pistols (Colorado State Patrol 4006, RCMP 5946 and a few others) in the past that had a black finish and those were said to be Melonite. Now that I think about it, all of those were PD guns that were probably requested in black to reduce light reflection at night...
