Hello, first post here on the S&W forum.

I'm considering go back to a revolver for concealed carry and would like one with the ability to add a night sight. I don't want to go the laser route.

I've been looking at snubbies with bobbed or enclosed hammers, Under $400, enter the bodyguard.38.

Looking at replacement night sights all I've come acrossed state not for 2 pin bodyguards.

I have an email into S&W customer service, but perhaps a quicker definitive answer may be gained here.

Are bodyguard 38's with a single pin an older or newer version? Does anyone know of a replacement night sight that allows 2 pins? Do the sights for 1 pin have enough room for 2 holes to be drilled?

Looking at the S&w site I see both pictured. I've used the search function here but couldn't find a definitive answer, neither did googling.

Thanks for any information on the bodyguard 38 concerning the pins and replacement night sights

Just as an update and further research on availability/ applicability of grips, springs, and other differences with the BG38 from other series of revolvers, probably will not pursue the BG38 further.

I originally thought for the relative low price to put in a spring kit, night sight, and guardian grip for lower profile. Since the smaller profile grips don't work, I'll turn to another option.

But if I do get a response back from S&W I'll make sure to update or if anyone has any other info to add on the pins to help out someone else.

I guess the BG38 is the "Sigma" of revolvers.

Don't know about that, but IMO the preferred shrouded/enclosed hammer snubbie is the 638, 438, 38, and 649.

You've made the right decision. While some have had good results with the BG38, most haven't. I never bought one because the manual of arms is different than a standard J frame.

I've had the first generation M&P® BG38 since 11/2014. Mine has a single pinhole. While mine has the Crimson Trace® Laser sight I don't use it much. I installed an XS® Big Dot night sight. That resulted in a big improvement in sight picture and accuracy. I am very pleased with this revolver and carry it daily.

Thanks for the info.

Just got a response back from S&W CS:

"We would like to thank you for your e-mail and contacting Smith & Wesson / Thompson Center.

I believe they are 2 pins that hold in the front sight. Pinned sights are usually not pre drilled. this is done after you remove the front sight, install the new front sight, then you would use the sight holes in the barrel for location.

Thank You for choosing Smith & Wesson / Thompson Center products. Have a great day."

So I guess between the info given by forum members and S&W there are at least 2 generations, not sure of when the new generation started, but 1st Gen 1 pin, 2nd Gen 2 pins for the front sight.

Replacement sights appear not to have enough surface to drill to facilitate a sight upgrade (which stinks if so), but I could be wrong.

Would there be a reason that you could not replace the sight and just install one pin instead of the two? It would seem that if a single pin held the front sights for many years that a single pin should still be able to hold a front sight.

I just bought the new bodyguard 38 with the 2 pins. Interested if there's any new info on this…I was wanting to replace the sight on it also.

I went with the Gun-Glow paint on front and rear in green and white.
