Bodyguard 380 Safety

My Bodyguard 380 has the Crimson Trace laser but no thumb safety. Is it common that if there is a laser there isn't a safety? Just wondering.

you can find them in all combinations. my BG's with lasers all have safeties. i don't think safeties are needed on the Body Guard. mine is never activated.

The BG380 has a double action only trigger like a revolver. Mine has a safety but is never used, also the safety is very small and in a stressful situation could be very difficult to remove. JMO
If you have a good holster and practice safe gun handling, you don't need a safety. JMO. I tell people it is a revolver in a pistol body. I've never heard of a DAO revolver that had a safety.
I carry mine AIWB in a Vedder kydex holster.

I carry a Bodyguard everyday in a Ruger-branded pocket holster, and never engage the safety. Trigger pull is long and heavy enough that if you somehow manage to have an AD with it because the safety was not engaged, you need to stop handling handguns.
The safety's surface is too smooth, stiff, and difficult to operate under the best of circumstances. The tab edge of mine has somehow become slightly bent in toward the frame over time and is almost impossible to operate, which is a moot point with me anyway.

Big .380 Bodyguard fan here.

I use my safety when "safe" is a priority, like when it sits on my desk, loaded. When I head out, I take my BG or Shield out of the IWB holster and take the safety off. Habit.

I carry AIWB (appendix in the waist band). That piece you see is called a claw. It puts pressure against the belt causing the grip of your gun to fit closer to your body. There are some great YouTube videos that explain how they work.
On the Vedder holsters you can remove it if it doesn't work for you. Hope this helps!

No safety model M&P. Just dont like them on defensive pistols. draw from holster, point & shoot.

Holster makers call that piece "The Claw"
It causes downward pressure via the belt to help tuck the holster tighter against the body to help eliminate printing..
I've never had any luck with the claw myself, It gouges me in the kidney & it gets removed pronto..

I'd bet that the safety could be added or removed from this pistol & add the filler plug like the one in the photo above.
Look for a Galloway video of the Bodyguard apart on youtube,
It falls out when the chassis is removed..
The DAO hammer of the bodyguard really needs no safety as the long DA trigger is it's true safety.. Just like a DAO revolver..

I like to have a safety on all of my pistols, but I never use it except as a decocking lever, or when handing the loaded pistol to someone.

I guess the safety could be removed though??

I like having the safety because I like carrying it with just a clipdraw, meaning the trigger is exposed.

I believe you could add a safety.. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I've taken out the internals several times and it just looks like a spring and a lever, although I wouldn't do it if you're not mechanically inclined. All sorts of things fall and spring out when you pull that thing.
