Bolt buffer idea

I had an idea using a thin piece of leather, pleather, kids craft foam sheets, or felt covering the end of the plastic (placing between bolt and black piece, not between it and lower) to absorb some shock. My question is, is it needed, since it is not designed with any shock absorber. I am gonna try a few of these and see if it hinders operation, or even helps.
I just wanted some input from all y'all on the practicalities of this.

Nice idea, but I'm thinking that bolt lock back after last round could be affected. Let's us know how it works for you.

I'm pretty sure this isn't a good idea.

It will limit the travel on the already shortened cycle, compared to a .223, and
have no real advantage.

The .22LR is not at all heavy on recoil, so the shock absorption would be
negligible, and the possibility of a misfire would be pretty high.

Especially if the material broke loose, folded over, and doubled it's thickness,
then the bolt would be forced to torque around it, possibly breaking one of the
2 arms.

Just worst case scenarios I can imagine...

put a butt-pad on your stock. If you have a MOE version they sell different MagPul butt-stock pads.

Oh, I'm not looking for felt recoil reduction, its not a problem, plus I have a VLTOR EMOD stock on it. I'm thinking more wear and tear issues from metal to plastic and some noise reduction.
Kinda like the polymer bolt buffers for a 10/22 instead of the factory steel one.

ok, honestly....i can see how myself and anybody would want to pimp-his-22, but if the recoil of a 22 bothers you..... you have no place shooting it then.

i can understand a .308 hurting/bothering you, maybe even a 5.56/223.... but a .22? come now dude, seriously?
there's tacticool (which EVERYBODY here is guilty of ) and downright silly (recoil mods/hacks for a 22)

Tacticool22 had made some foam/rubber prototypes a few months back. I think the consensus was that they're not very necessary, even for suppressed use.

I think the one I received is still on the rails behind the bolt in my rifle, and it hasn't made much of a difference at all.

I agree with Rustspot. I came to the same conclussion after using Tacticool's buffer. His buffer is still in my 15-22, but I really can't see that it helps or hinders. Tacticool had a good idea he wanted to try.

The buffer has nothing to do with RECOIL, it's a bolt buffer only. No one said anything about it reducing felt recoil on your shoulder. Re-read the original post by jonrobertd.

Tried it, worked OK. It did reduce felt recoil a bit by taking some of the "snap" out. That would really only help people with very sensitive shoulders. Like people that have had shoulder surgery, arthritis, Etc.
Last round hold open was not affected on our rifles. The operating noise was reduced a little too.
It was one of those ideas that sound good, but the actuality was disappointing.

Thanks Tacticool, Rustpsot and Jonah, didn't know ya'll tried it, that answers my questions enough, though I might still tinker.

The idea was for mostly wear & tear issues, nothing to do with felt recoil. I don't really feel any of my .22 rifles.

Heck I like recoil, nothing like the punch from a hot loaded 8mm with steel butt plate. LOL
