Books on Colt SAAs

Through an unusual set of circumstances, I have ended up with 2 Colt single actions this year, a second generation SAA in .45 Colt, and a third generation New Frontier in .44-40. I have a pretty good set of reference books on S&Ws, but not much on Colts and nothing on Colt SAAs. Does anyone have any suggestions on a couple of good books on Colt SAAs? Merry Christmas and thanks for any suggestions.

"The Peacemakers" by R. L. Wilson.

A general book on the history of the Colt SAs.

More technical books or pamphlets can be found;
I just don't happen to have those I used to possess
very handy right now to give proper titles, authors.

Just to get an idea of what is available, go to Amazon.com
and seek Colt Single Action Army books. About two dozen
are listed, some fairly pricey.

Buy a copy of Don Wilkerson's The Post-War Colt Single-Action Revolver 1955-1975 and a copy of The Post-War Colt Single-Action Revolver 1976-1986. Be patient and look for deals, they are out of print and can bring big $$$ sometimes.

Find the books by Donald R. Wilkerson in Post No. 3. Do this. You may have to pay a lot, though.

The Colt books by R.L. Wilson are good, although his past causes me not to want to do business with him. Look that up.

I should be paid by Geoffrey Boothroyd's estate for the number of times I've promoted his book, "The Handgun'' on this board. Not usually expensive. Big and heavy and very informative about most handguns, inc. Colts.

"A History of the Colt Revolver, 1836-1940", by Haven and Belden. Find a copy. Even if you have to look hard. Covers Colt autos, too, despite the title.

Kopec’s book is the definitive work on 1st generation SAA’s.

Wilkerson’s book is the standard on 2nd and 3rd generation guns.

There’s a lot of fakes/restored/upgraded guns out there and it’s been going on for decades. If you’re gonna dabble in the big league’s, get the best info you can and make friends with experts.
